Lake Elsinore, CA – The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes saw their four-game road winning streak come to an end on Sunday evening, as they dropped a 9-7 decision to the Lake Elsinore Storm.
Despite out-hitting the Storm, 13-5, the Quakes couldn’t overcome 12 men left on base and eight walks to help Lake Elsinore’s five-hit effort.
Dalton Rushing had a monster game for the Quakes, as he reached base five times and swatted a game-tying homer, his second, in the fifth inning.
Lake Elsinore took the lead for good in the last of the fifth though, as Quakes’ reliever Martin Santana (4-4) allowed four of the five hitters he faced to reach safely. Jared Alvarez-Lopez ripped a three-run double, giving the Storm a 6-3 lead.
Rancho tallied a run off Storm closer Ben Miller in the ninth and put the tying run on base, before Bubba Alleyne struck out to end the game and give Miller his sixth save of the year.
Alleyne hit his first pro homer and Nick Biddison reached base four times to highlight the day for the Rancho offense.
Storm reliever Ruben Galindo (4-2) was credited with the win, helping the Storm snap their four-game losing streak.
The Quakes (21-21, 57-51) are now three games out in the South Division standings, behind Inland Empire. Rancho takes Monday off, then return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday to face the Modesto Nuts, for another Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday. Benony Robles (5-2) is scheduled to throw for the Quakes against Modesto’s Jake Miednik at 6:30pm. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
