SKY SOX COMPOSE 17-3 NUMBER ON SOUNDS
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox defeated Nashville soundly Monday evening with a 17-3 victory to kick off this four-game series against the Sounds. Tyrone Taylor fell a home run shy of the cycle in the 14 run margin of victory, which was the largest ever against Nashville.
In the first, the Sky Sox kick-started the scoring sparked by back-to-back singles from leadoff Nate Orf and Tyler Saladino. After Ji-Man Choi grounded into a double play to advance Orf to third base, a wild pitch during Jacob Nottingham's at-bat sent Orf home to plate the first run of the contest.
In the second, the Sky Sox strung together a huge rally comprised of six runs on five hits. Brett Phillips led off the frame with a single while Christian Bethancourt followed with a walk. After Andrés Blanco's single to plate Phillips, Tyrone Taylor, who was activated off of the disabled list Monday afternoon, smacked an opposite-field triple to clear the bases. Orf would collect his second single on the night before Ji-Man Choi slugged his first home run of the season to straightaway centerfield to make it a 7-0 advantage.
In the top of the third, Nashville entered a couple of tallies on the board thanks to Dustin Fowler's double to centerfield to bring around BJ Boyd, who singled to leadoff the inning, and Steve Lombardozzi, who walked, cutting the Sky Sox lead to 7-2.
In the Sky Sox third, the squad answered back and then some with seven runs on seven hits, including four extra-base hits. Bethancourt and Blanco knocked back-to-back singles to start the half while Taylor and Orf added two singles to the mix. Saladino marked the fifth hit of the frame, his first triple of the season, while Choi sent a single to score him and Jacob Nottingham capped things off with his third home run of the season, making it a commanding 14-2 lead.
After the Sounds put up a solo run in the fourth, Colorado Springs added two more runs to their lineup in each of the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 16-3. The Sky Sox added their final run in the eighth thanks to Orf's sacrifice fly marking his third RBI of the contest.
The Sky Sox continue the four-game series against Nashville tomorrow with game two scheduled for 6:40 p.m. at Security Service Field including $2 Tuesday presented by Boost Mobile, which features $2 parking, tickets and Coors light. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. For all information on Sky Sox, follow along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, or visit the team's website at www.skysox.com.

Runs on Runs on Runs: The Sky Sox 17 runs Monday day marked the most of the season (previous high of 13, 4/25 vs. OMA). Additionally, the 14-run margin of victory marked the highest ever against Nashville. The previous high was 11 runs when the Sky Sox beat Nashville, 15-4 on April 27th, 2001 here in Colorado Springs. The last time the Sky Sox had a 14-run margin of victory prior to tonight was on April 15th, 2013 at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, 19-5 over the 51s. The last time the Sky Sox had a 14-run margin of victory at home in Colorado Springs was on May 29th, 2011, an 18-run margin of victory win over Fresno, 24-6 over the Grizzlies.
Gas on Fire: Sky Sox starter and number two-rated prospect Corbin Burnes was fire again in his fifth start of the year. In four innings of work, the Bakersfield native allowed just three runs on five hits (four singles and a double). Burnes did not qualify for a decision and remains at 1-0 on the season.
Lucky Number Seven: On Monday night, the Sky Sox totaled their highest amount of runs in a single frame with seven. The last Sky Sox 7-run inning (any inning) happened on July 27, 2017 in Colorado Springs (7 in bottom 4th) against Tacoma, in which the Sky Sox won 16-9. The last Sky Sox 7-run third inning happened on July 5, 2017 (Game 1 of DH) in Colorado Springs (7 in bottom 3rd) coincidentally also against Nashville, and the Sky Sox won that game 10-6.
Taylor Just Shy of Cycle: Tyrone Taylor, who was activated off of the disabled list Monday afternoon, came up just a home run shy of the cycle. It would have marked the first cycle for the Sky Sox in 2018.

The highest amount of hits the Sky Sox have recorded as a franchise is 32, which was set on May 7, 1988 vs. Phoenix at Spurgeon Stadium. The highest amount of hits by the Sky Sox ever at Security Service Field is 27, which was set June 8, 2005 against Fresno.

Pitching Out of Position: Nashville's Slade Heathcott (INF) marked the first position player to pitch against the Sky Sox in 2018 (7th inning). Last season against the Sounds, the Sky Sox faced three pitching, position players [(May 28th, 2017 (Game 1) in Nashville - Chris Parmalee, Ryan Lavarnway - Sky Sox won that game 8-0), July 5th, 2017 (Game 2) in Colorado Springs - Melvin Mercedes (Sky Sox won that game 13-6)].
Dubon Extends to 18: Mauricio Dubón extended his hit streak to 18 games Sunday. Dubon has gone 26-for-78 over 18 games with 13 runs, three home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases. His longest recorded streak in 2017 with the Sky Sox was seven games. On Monday night, Dubon had an off day and was not in the starting lineup.
Series Victory: The Sky Sox remained perfect in game four matchups and, after Saturday's win, improved to 4-0 on the season while also improving to 2-3 on Saturday games played. The Omaha 3-2 series win marked the fourth series win for the Sox in 2018.
Tomorrow's Expectation:  In the second game of the four-game series against the Nashville Sounds, the Sky Sox are sending right-hander Freddy Peralta, who is seeking his league-leading fifth win, to the mound to face fellow righty Kendall Graveman for the Sounds.
