ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (29-25) fell on Friday night by a final score of 9-1 to the El Paso Chihuahuas (22-33) as the series at Dell Diamond was evened at two games apiece.
Round Rock RHP Kyle Barraclough (0-3, 4.43) went home with the loss after his 4.0-inning start saw three runs, four hits, five walks and two strikeouts. El Paso LHP Daniel Camerena (1-4, 8.72) earned the win with a start that spanned 5.0 innings and included one run, two hits, one walk and four punchouts.
Along the Train Tracks:
- El Paso took an early 3-0 lead after the first four batters of the game reached base. 1B Nate Mondou and SS Matthew Batten both scored thanks to a triple from C Brett Sullivan. Sullivan then found home himself as 3B Eguy Rosario grounded out.
- Both teams plated a run in the fifth inning. In the top, Chihuahuas LF Tirso Ornelas hit a sacrifice fly to score Rosario, who had tripled. In the home half, Express C Sam Huff doubled then scored on a double from 1B Blaine Crim. El Paso continued to hold the lead a 4-1 after the frame.
- The Chihuahuas added two more to their lead when CF Bryce Johnson scored one run in both the sixth and eighth innings. The outfielder hit a single, stole second base, found third on a Mondou groundout then scored as Batten hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Johnson then hit a triple in the eighth and scored on an Express balk.
- El Paso kept at it and extended their lead to 9-1 in the ninth inning. Two walks, two singles, one double, one wild pitch and one groundout helped the visitors score three and pull away with the lead. Round Rock put two runners aboard with singles in the bottom of the frame, but the 9-1 score held final.
E-Train Excerpts:
- The solo Express reliever that did not allow a run on Friday night was LHP Chasen Shreve, who closed the game, securing the final two outs. Shreve struck out one Chihuahuas batter.
- C Sam Huff tallied a multi-hit night, hitting 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Round Rock did not record a hit until the fifth inning.
Next up: Round Rock and El Paso will face off in game five at Dell Diamond on Saturday night. Express RHP Owen White (1-2, 4.93) is scheduled to take the mound against Chihuahuas LHP Ryan Carpenter (2-4, 8.74). Tomorrow night’s first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. CT.
