ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (36-28) took down the El Paso Chihuahuas (28-36) in the series opener on Tuesday night by a final score of 8-5 at Dell Diamond.

Round Rock reliever RHP Marc Church (2-0, 4.70) earned the win after 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen where he gave up one hit, one walk and one strikeout. El Paso RHP Aaron Brooks (2-2, 5.14) walked away with the loss after recording just one out and allowing four runs on three hits, one walk and one hit batter. RHP Chase Lee earned a six-out save and did not allow a run or a hit and he struck out three.

Along the Train Tracks

  • Round Rock was on the board first in the second inning with the help of RF Elier Hernandez. His solo home run made it 1-0.
  • El Paso fought from behind with a two-run home run from SS Matthew Batten to lead 2-1 after three frames.
  • They kept the runs coming with another two in the fourth after a single from C Brett Sullivan scored one run and a sacrifice fly from DH Kevin Plawecki extended the lead to 4-1.
  • In the sixth inning, after 3B Jantzen Witte had reached on an error, Batten collected another RBI with a double and the Chihuahuas took a 5-1 lead.
  • With the bases full for the E-Train in the sixth inning, Hernandez doubled to clear the bags and Round Rock trailed by one. C Sam Huff hit a go-ahead, two-run home run to give the Express a 6-5 lead. The inning was capped off when 3B Yoshi Tsutsugo singled to score one more and the E-Train had an 8-5 lead.
  • Wendzel added to the scoresheet with a solo shot. His team leading 14th of the year put the E-Train ahead 8-5 in the seventh. The Express bullpen held the Chihuahuas scoreless over the final 3.1 innings to secure the victory.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • With a home run in the second inning, Express RF Elier Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 17 straight games which is the second longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League.
  • Texas Rangers Rehabbers RHP Glenn Otto and 1B Brad Miller each made rehab appearances on Tuesday night for the Express. Otto started and tossed 3.0 innings while allowing two runs, two hits, a home run and four strikeouts. Miller went 0-for-2 in his two plate appearances.
  • LHP Juan Mejia made his Triple-A Debut tonight with the Express and pitched one inning of relief that saw one hit, two runs and four walks.

Next up: Round Rock will face El Paso in game two on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. CT from Dell Diamond. Express RHP Cole Winn (1-4, 8.49) will get the start and square off against Chihuahuas RHP Anderson Espinoza (2-2, 6.07).
