ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (25-19) fell to the Reno Aces (21-24) by a final score of 3-1 in the series finale on Sunday at Dell Diamond. Despite the loss, the Express took four of the six games in the series and they have won four consecutive series.
Round Rock reliever RHP Kyle Barraclough (1-1, 6.59) took the loss after 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed two runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Reno starter RHP Chris Ellis (2-3, 4.44) was credited with the win after pitching 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Aces reliever RHP Scott McGough earned his first save of the season after throwing a shutout ninth inning.
Along the Train Tracks:
- Round Rock scored first with a solo home run by LF Derek Hill in the first inning to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
- 2B Kolton Wong answered with his own solo shot for Reno in the top of the second inning to even the game at one.
- With two outs, the Aces took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single by SS Sergio Alcantara. Wong raced around and scored from second base.
- A solo home run in the seventh inning by DH Adrian Del Castillo extended the lead for Reno to 3-1. The Express threatened with two baserunners in the ninth inning but could not collect a run.
E-Train Excerpts:
- Round Rock starter RHP Peter Solomon landed himself a no-decision after 3.2 innings of work as he allowed one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
- LF Derek Hill hit his eighth home run of the season and leads the team in long balls. Round Rock has now hit a home run in five consecutive games.
Next up: The Express travel to Sugar Land for a six-game battle with the first-place Space Cowboys. First pitch for Tuesday’s opener is set for 6:35 p.m. CT. Neither team has named a starting pitcher.
