Round Rock Handed Series Loss in Game Four Against El Paso

EL PASO, Texas – The Round Rock Express (14-11 | 58-41) fell to the El Paso Chihuahuas (10-15 | 42-58) by a final score of 8-3 on Friday night at Southwest University Park. The fourth-straight loss to El Paso marked the E-Train’s first series loss since May 9-14 when the team was swept by Oklahoma City.
Round Rock starter RHP Glenn Otto (0-1, 4.50) went home with his first loss of the season after tossing 4.0 innings that saw six hits, four runs, one walk and three strikeouts. El Paso starter RHP Matt Waldron (2-7, 7.05) earned the win after throwing 5.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts.
Along the Train Tracks:
- The scoring opened in the third inning after 1B Dustin Harris led off with a single and scored on a double from 3B Dio Arias.. Arias soon scored on a single from CF J.P. Martinez and the Express had an early 2-0 lead.
- El Paso took the lead in the fourth inning after singles from 1B Brandon Dixon and RF Ben Gamel had them aboard when 3B Jantzen Witte slapped a three-run home run. The Chihuahuas went back-to-back after SS Ray-Patrick Didder belted a solo home run and extended the lead to 4-2.
- The Chihuahuas scored again in the home half of the sixth inning after three straight two-out hits from 2B Max Shrock, CF Oscar Mercado and C Brett Sullivan plated two more runs and extended the lead to 6-2.
- In the eighth inning, El Paso tacked on another pair of runs. Sullivan notched a sacrifice fly and DH Preston Tucker hit an RBI single to make it an 8-2 game.
- Round Rock tried to rally in the ninth after 2B Justin Foscue singled and scored on a double from LF Elier Hernandez. The Express couldn’t score again and fell 8-3.
E-Train Excerpts:
- Round Rock starter RHP Glenn Otto gave up four runs in 4.0 innings off six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
- With the loss tonight, the Express extended their season-high road losing streak to four consecutive games and were handed the series loss against El Paso. It is the first series loss for the E-Train since May 9-14 when the team was swept by Oklahoma City at Dell Diamond. It was just the third series loss on the season.
- Express LHP Danny Duffy made his Round Rock debut tonight after appearing in 12 games with Double-A Frisco this season. Duffy tossed 1.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out one and issued two walks.
Next up: Round Rock and El Paso will play in game five of the series at Southwest University Park on Saturday with first pitch set for 7:35 p.m. CT. Express RHP Robert Dugger (5-7, 4.79) is scheduled to start up against Chihuahuas RHP Nolan Watson (0-2, 8.06).
