Express Win Fifth Straight Game After 15-6 Win Over Sacramento

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (41-29) topped the Sacramento River Cats (33-37) by a final score of 15-6 behind three home runs in the series opener on Tuesday night at Dell Diamond.
Round Rock reliever RHP Cole Winn (2-5, 8.19) earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out two. Sacramento starter RHP Kai-Wei Teng (0-1, 15.00) took home the loss in his Triple-A debut after giving up seven hits, five runs and three walks in three innings of work.
Along the Train Tracks
- The Express put up two runs in the first inning after RF J.P. Martinez drew a leadoff walk and a double from CF Elier Hernandez sent him home for a 1-0 lead. SS Jonathan Ornelas singled Hernandez in after an error on LF Brett Wisely allowed Elier to be on third.
- In the second inning the E-Train tallied another run with the help of LF Dustin Harris’s double and an RBI single from 2B Dio Arias which put the good guys up 3-0.
- 3B Armondo Alvarez put Sacramento on the board in the fourth inning with a two-out home run to pull the River Cats within two, but in the home half of the fourth, the Express answered back by loading the bases and drawing two bases-loaded walks accompanied by an RBI single by DH Sandro Fabian to see a 6-1 lead.
- In the fifth inning, Round Rock built the lead to 9-1 after 1B Blaine Crim smacked a three-run home run with C Matt Whatley and Martinez aboard after drawing a walk and single, respectively.
- Another bases-loaded situation for the Express in the sixth inning allowed Martinez to clear the bases with a double and make it a 12-1 game.
- After three scoreless innings, the River Cats tacked on their second run in the eighth inning after SS Tyler Fitzgerald’s RBI single sent CF Bryce Johnson who had reached on a fielder’s choice. In the home half, Whatley singled and scored on Martinez’s home run which put the E-Train ahead 15-2.
- Sacramento saw a four-run ninth inning after RF Clint Coulter doubled in Alvarez and a two outs three-run shot from CF Bryce Johnson made it a 15-6 game.
E-Train Excerpts:
- Round Rock OF Elier Hernandez extended his Pacific Coast League-leading hit streak to 22 games with a double in the first inning. His 22 straight games ties a club record when Yangervis Solarte hit safely in 22 straight games from April 19, 2012 to May 11, 2012.
- In his Express debut, LF Dustin Harris recorded the first hit of his Triple-A career in the second inning after sending a double to left field. Harris also smacked his first Triple-A home run in the eighth inning to put Round Rock’s lead in double digits.
- The 12 games over .500 for the Express is the most games over .500 for the club this season, and the five straight home wins ties the club’s season-high five straight wins at home.
