4,000,000th Fan Enters Gates

Season Ticket Holder Derrell Sanderson Historic Fan Honored Tonight at Municipal Stadium

SAN JOSE, CA- Derrell Sanderson helped make history Friday night at Municipal Stadium when he entered the front gate as the 4,000,000th fan in San Jose Giants history based on regular season attendance. Municipal Stadium has been the home of the San Jose Giants since 1988.

The longtime season ticket holder had the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch and was presented with a gift basket including Turkey Mike's BBQ dinner for the remainder of the season and during the 2013 playoffs, SJ Giants gear from the San Jose Giants Dugout Store and memorabilia including a Sergio Romo signed ball and a 2013 team autographed baseball featuring some of the top prospects in the Giants system. In addition, several San Jose Giants partners graciously donated items for the special gift basket including Bally Total Fitness, Gilroy Gardens, Giorgio's, Los Lagos, In-N-Out and Rotten Robbie.

"I am honored to represent the 4,000,000 fans that have entered the gates at Municipal Stadium in the past 26 seasons," said Sanderson. "The San Jose Giants are such a tremendous part of our community, and we always look forward to coming to the ballpark and rooting for the future of the San Francisco Giants."

Derrell Sanderson a native of Richmond, CA moved to San Jose in 1955 and has been a San Jose Giants season ticket holder with his wife Caroline Sanderson since 2005 the same year he suffered a stroke. His wife Caroline recalls, "I needed a place to take Derrell in 2005 at night for him to work on his speech therapy, and a friend offered us tickets to the San Jose Giants game. We have been coming back ever since and enjoy seeing friends that have become family throughout the years each night at the ballpark."

Juliana Paoli, San Jose Giants Chief Marketing Officer congratulated Derrell and his wife Caroline in the stands on Saturday, along with mascot Gigante. "This is an incredible milestone for us and speaks to the organization's place in the community over the past 26 seasons," said Paoli. "We want to thank Derrell and Caroline for their continued support of the team. We truly have the best fans in Minor League Baseball!"

The San Jose Giants are the 2013 First Half Northern Division Champions. With eight regular season home games remaining, the Giants are preparing for the playoffs and will open the Division Series at home, Saturday, September 7 at 6:00 PM with postgame fireworks.
