STOCKTON, Calif. — The Ports made it interesting in the middle innings against the Quakes on Sunday night, but Rancho Cucamonga won 10-5 in the series finale.
The Quakes jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first, as Jackson Finley struggled with his command early on. He walked the first three batters of the game, and allowed a base hit and a grand slam for the five-run first. It was flipped around in the second inning, when he allowed four-straight hits to start a three-run inning that made it 8-0.
The Ports trailed 10-0 going into the fifth, but Bjay Cooke and Elvis Rijo started the inning with hits, including an RBI double for Rijo to get Stockton on the board. A sac fly from Esteury Ruiz when plate the Ports second run of the game. They would plate two more in the sixth after Dereck Salom walked and Clark Elliot singled to right. Salom scored on a base hit from Nick Schwartz, and an RBI groundout from Cooke made it 10-4.
Nate Nankil scored in the seventh on an RBI base hit from Salom for the Ports fifth run of the game, but they would strand three more runners in the final two innings to fall 10-5.
