Lazaro Montes hit two home runs and Luis Suisbel added a homer of his own as the Modesto Nuts shut out the Stockton Ports 9-0 on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
Darren Bowen (2-2) pitched five strong innings, allowing just one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Brayan Perez and Juan Burgos combined for the final four innings as Stockton could only muster two hits in the loss.
Montes started the scoring with a solo blast to right off Gunnar Hoglund in the second inning, his first long ball of the season. Jared Sundstrom added an RBI double to make it 2-0.
Montes homered again in the third, a two-run shot to center. RJ Schreck made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Michael Arroyo scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
Hoglund (0-5) was charged with six earned runs on seven hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings.
Modesto plated two more runs in the eighth on a throwing error by Bjay Cooke. Suisbel launched his fourth homer of the season in the ninth to make it 9-0.
