SAN JOSE, Ca. – Three pitchers combined to hold the Giants to just one run on five hits as the Ports collected double-digit hits for the third straight game in a 4-1 victory at Excite Ballpark in San Jose on Friday night.
Friday’s win marks the third straight for the Ports (38-68), who have also won five of their last six.
With the game scoreless through three innings, the Ports took an early lead against Giants’ starter Nick Sinacola. With runners at first and second and one out, Alexander Campos lined a single to left field to score Daniel Susac from second base giving the Ports a 1-0 lead.
Stockton doubled its lead in the top of the fifth. Caeden Trenkle led off with a double and moved to third on a one-out single by T.J. Schofield-Sam. After a stolen base put runners on second and third and drew the San Jose infield in, Tommy Stevenson hit a sharp ground ball that bounced off the left leg of San Jose shortstop Aeverson Arteaga and bounced right to second baseman Anyesber Sivira who threw to first base for the out. Trenkle, who took off on contact, scored on the play to give the Ports a 2-0 lead.
The Ports took advantage of San Jose (59-47) mistakes in the top of the seventh to double their lead. With two outs, Susac advanced from first to third on two wild pitches. Junior Perez worked a walk in the process, and with Campos at the plate two more wild pitches allowed Susac and Perez to score, making it 4-0.
The four runs were plenty of support for three Ports pitchers, who combined to allow just one run on five hits on Friday night. Jack Perkins allowed just one hit over two shutout innings, and Tyler Baum followed with two hitless, scoreless innings. Stevie Emanuels then finished the ballgame with five innings of one run ball with a season-high seven strikeouts, the only tally coming on a solo home run by Yorlis Rodrigeuz with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Baum (1-0) picked up his first career win with his two shutout innings, and Emanuels notched his first career save. Giants’ starter Nick Sinacola (5-6) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings while striking out five.
The Ports will look to make it four in a row on Saturday in game five at Excite Ballpark in San Jose with first pitch at 6:00 pm.
