EASTLAKE, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers started their six-game road trip to the Eastern Division on the right foot. Payton Henry went 4-for-5 with a homer and paced the Rattlers to a 10-5 win over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park on Tuesday night.
Wisconsin (8-16) jumped to the early lead with two runs in the first inning off Lake County starter Francisco Perez. Zach Clark started the game with a double and moved to third on a passed ball. Then, Tristen Lutz drew a walk. Demi Orimoloye got the first run of the game home with an infield single. Gabriel García followed with a double to drive in the second run and the Rattlers were up 2-0.
Perez had pitched 6-1/3 no-hit innings for the Captains in his start prior to Tuesday night.
The Rattlers blew the game open in the third inning with five runs. García drove in the first run of the inning with a one-out single. Wisconsin loaded the bases with two two-out singles to move Garcia to third. Nick Roscetti was next and he lined a triple to the corner in right to clear the bases and give Wisconsin a 6-0 lead. Clark followed with a single for the final run of the frame.
Wisconsin loaded the bases again in the fourth inning and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jay Feliciano. The Rattlers made it 9-0 on an RBI single by Henry.
Dylan File was cruising through four innings, but a dropped popup allowed Jose Vicente to reach base to start the bottom of the fifth. Ernie Clement singled with one out to move Vicente to third base. Then, File threw a wild pitch to allow Vicente to score and Clement to take second. A two-out single by Jorma Rodriguez chased Clement home. Nolan Jones extended the inning when he took ball four on a 3-2 pitch.
Will Benson crushed the next pitch over the wall in center for his fifth home run of the season. The three-run blast brought the Captains (11-12) to within four runs.
Henry padded the Rattlers lead with a lead-off homer to right. Henry was a triple shy of the cycle in the game. He would come up in the ninth inning with a chance to become the first Wisconsin player with five hits in a game since Tyrone Taylor turned the trick against Beloit on August 20, 2013, but Henry was retired for the first time in the game.
Rodrigo Benoit, who entered the game in relief of File with two outs in the sixth inning, closed out the game by working 3-1/3 scoreless innings and striking out four.
Wisconsin has won two straight games and three of their last four. They have scored a total of 34 runs in those three wins.
