The Biloxi Shuckers (15-32) led going to the ninth inning but were taken down by a comeback from the Montgomery Biscuits (22-24) in a 6-5 defeat in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at MGM Park. With the loss, the Shuckers were swept in a five-game series for the first time in franchise history.

Heading to the eighth inning, the Shuckers held a 4-3 lead over the Biscuits. RHP Zach Vennaro struck out the first batter he faced but allowed three consecutive singles as Montgomery tied the game at 4-4. Vennaro finished the inning with a strikeout and a groundout, stranding the go-ahead run at third.

In the bottom of the eighth, Gabriel Garcia singled with one out and Ryan Aguilar replaced him on a fielder’s choice. Aguilar then swiped second and Cam Devanney walked, bringing up Brice Turang. The Brewers’ #2 prospect laced a single up the middle, scoring Aguilar to put the Shuckers back in front 5-4.

RHP Braden Webb (L,2-3)(BS,3) entered in the ninth and walked Jim Haley to start the inning but the Biscuits’ shortstop was thrown out attempting to steal second for the first out. Moises Gomez then lined a ball to right field that Tristen Lutz was unable to catch, resulting in an error that allowed Gomez to motor around to third base. Cal Stevenson hit a sac fly in the ensuing at bat, driving in the tying run for the Biscuits.

Biloxi had a chance to for a walk off in the bottom of the ninth inning as Lutz was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sac bunt. With two outs, Chad Spanberger singled to left field, but Lutz was thrown out at home attempting to score from second, sending the game to extra innings.

Montgomery scored their bonus runner on a single by Miles Mastrobuoni, putting the Biscuits up 6-5. Spanberger started as the bonus runner for the Shuckers and moved to third on passed ball. After Aguilar walked with one out and stole second, Devanney roped a ball to third that Seaver Whalen knocked down, preventing a run from scoring, before throwing out Devanney for the second out of the frame. RHP Joel Peguero (W, 1-5) intentionally walked Turang before inducing a groundout from Castro, ending the game.

The Shuckers jumped out to a lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Turang and Castro. The Biscuits claimed the lead in the top of the second on a two-run homer by Haley, but Biloxi had an immediate response, tying the game at 2-2 on an RBI single from Devanney. Biloxi went in front in the home half of the third on a solo home run by Lutz, his sixth of the year, to make it 3-2. Spanberger added to the Shuckers lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double, one of his three hits on the day.

After a day off on Monday, the Shuckers head to Pensacola for a six-game series against the Blue Wahoos starting Tuesday night. Biloxi is set to send LHP Nick Bennett to the mound while the Blue Wahoos have not named a starter for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
