Behind a 7-for-12 performance from the bottom three hitters in their lineup and a quality start from RHP T.J. Shook (W, 1-0), the Biloxi Shuckers (23-23) topped the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (22-21) 10-7 on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

Pensacola scored two batters into the bottom of the first inning on an opposite field home run by Troy Johnston, his second of the year. Griffin Conine doubled in the next at bat but Shook forced a pair of flyouts to strand a runner in scoring position.

The Shuckers struck back in the top of the second inning with a home run of their own, a solo blast by Cam Devanney, his sixth of the season, to tie the game at 1-1.

The bottom of third of the order rallied with two outs to put the Shuckers ahead in the fourth. Noah Campbell doubled to the left-field corner and Yeison Coca followed with a walk from RHP Zach McCambley (L, 2-4), putting runners on first and second for Terence Doston. The Shuckers left fielder roped a single into center field, driving in Campbell to give Biloxi a 2-1 advantage.

Shook held the Wahoos in check the second time through the order but encountered trouble in the fifth. Johnston singled to begin the inning and Conine gave the Wahoos the lead again with a two-run homer to right, his eighth of the year. Shook responded by retiring five of the final six batters he faced, tying a career high with six innings pitched and allowing three runs while striking out four.

Biloxi would go back in front for good in the sixth. Tristen Lutz started the inning with a single and Campbell walked two batters later, setting the stage for Coca, who singled over third base to drive in Lutz and tie the game at 3-3. Doston then laced a single to center, plating Campbell to give the Shuckers the lead yet again at 4-3. Felix Valerio doubled in two, extending Biloxi’s cushion to 6-3. Campbell drove in his second run of the night in the top of the seventh when he tripled home Lutz after the Shuckers’ right fielder had reach on an error.

In the top of the eighth, RHP George Soriano struck out the first two batters in the inning and was replaced by RHP Colton Hock. Thomas Dillard greeted Hock with a solo blast to straightaway center field, his fourth homer of the season, to make it 8-3, and Lutz went back-to-back with Dillard, his sixth home run of the year, to put Biloxi up 9-3.

Pensacola scored a pair in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Shuckers grabbed a run back in the ninth when Coca tripled and Doston doubled to give the Shuckers a 10-5 lead. It was Doston’s third hit of the night, tying a career high, and his third RBI, a new career high for the 22nd round pick out of Hillsborough High School. RHP Harold Chirino came on in the ninth and after allowing a pair of runs induced a game-ending double play to close out the win.

The Shuckers continue their six-game series against the Wahoos on Friday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Biloxi is slated to send RHP Victor Castañeda (1-2, 2.84) to the mound while Pensacola has not named a starter.
