A bases-loaded walk forced in the winning run for the Biloxi Shuckers (33-32) in a 5-4 walk-off win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (34-28) on Friday night at MGM Park.

With the game even at 4-4, RHP Zack Leban (L, 0-1) came on to pitch the ninth for the Wahoos. Jason Lopez worked a walk to begin the frame and Terence Doston moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. A ground out by Noah Campbell advanced Lopez to third, bringing up Joey Wiemer. The Shuckers’ outfielder was hit by a pitch, and the ensuing batter, Jakson Reetz, was also plunked, loading up the bases for Thomas Dillard. Leban worked a full count to the Dillard, but the Shuckers’ first baseman drew ball four to force in the winning run for the Shuckers. It was Biloxi’s seventh walk-off victory of the year, improving their mark at MGM Park to 23-10.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the second inning the Shuckers replied with a run in the home half of the inning. Cam Devanney started the inning with a double, extending his hitting streak to 17-games and on-base streak to 23 contests. Yeison Coca lashed a single to right but Griffin Conine threw out Devanney at home for the first out in the frame. Coca advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lopez, cutting into the Wahoos’ lead at 2-1.

Following a two-run top of the third, the Shuckers’ offense went back to work in the last of the frame. Wiemer singled with one out and Reetz followed with a double to right, putting two men in scoring position for Dillard, who stroked a double off the left-field wall to drive in both runners, making it 4-3 in the third.

Out of the bullpen, RHP Kent Hasler slung two scoreless innings for the Shuckers and RHP Robbie Hitt worked out a bases-loaded jam in a scoreless frame to keep the Shuckers within a run heading to the bottom of the eighth. Wiemer yet again singled to start the stanza and progressed to second on a ground out by Reetz. Wiemer then stole third base with Dillard batting and scored on a single by Dillard, his second hit of the night and third RBI, tying the game at 4-4. In the top of the ninth inning, RHP Nash Walters (W, 3-1) hurled a perfect inning, striking out one in the process.

Looking for a series win, the Shuckers continue their six-game tangle with the Wahoos on Saturday night. LHP Brandon Knarr (0-0, 4.80) takes the mound for Biloxi opposite Pensacola RHP Jeff Lindgren (1-1, 3.15) for a 6:35 pm first pitch at MGM Park.
