The Biloxi Shuckers (33-33) mounted a furious late comeback but fell one-run short in an 8-7 defeat to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (35-28) on Saturday night at MGM Park.

The scoring was tight through the first six frames with Pensacola scoring their lone run on a sacrifice fly by Troy Johnston in the third inning. Biloxi responded with a run of their own off RHP Jeff Lindgren (W, 2-1) in the bottom of the frame when Noah Campbell and Felix Valerio both singled to lead off the frame and Thomas Dillard drove in Campbell with a single to left, leveling the game at 1-1.

In the top of the seventh, the Wahoos struck for four runs against RHP Luis Contreras (L, 1-2) on four hits, a sacrifice fly, two stolen bases and a throwing error. The Shuckers were able to grab back one run on an RBI single by Jakson Reetz but left two men in scoring position as RHP Eli Villalobos (H, 3) captured the final two outs in the frame.

Pensacola widened their advantage in the top of the eighth inning. Cobie Fletcher-Vance reached on a fielding error and Bubba Hollins dunked a single into center, putting two men on for Norel Gonzalez, who hit a three-run homer to right, his second of the year with the Wahoos, to make it an 8-2 game.

Jason Lopez led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and two batters later Nick Kahle lofted a two-run homer over the right-field wall, his first of the year, pulling Biloxi within four at 8-4. The Shuckers continued their comeback in the ninth when Felix Valerio unloaded on a 3-1 pitch and deposited it well over the left-field wall, his tenth homer of the year, bringing Biloxi within a trio at 8-5. The home run was the fourth hit of the night for Valerio, his second four-hit game of the season. Reetz and Dillard each drew a pair of walks, ending the night for RHP Dylan Bice, who was replaced by RHP Colton Hock (S, 7). Cam Devanney greeted Hock with an RBI double to left, bringing in a run to move within two runs at 8-6. It was the third hit of the night for Devanney who extended his franchise-record hitting streak to 18 games. After a strikeout, Yeison Coca singled to left to make it a one-run game and move the tying run to third, but Hock got a lineout to end the contest.

Biloxi rounds out the first half of the season and concludes their six-game series with the Wahoos on Sunday afternoon at MGM Park. RHP Noah Zavolas (2-1, 5.24) takes the hill for Biloxi against Pensacola RHP Cody Mincey (3-3, 5.29) for a 5:05 pm first pitch.
