*MADISON, AL *– The Biloxi Shuckers (58-65, 24-32 2nd half) fell to the Rocket City Trash Pandas (75-51 34-23 2nd half) 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Toyota Field. The Trash Pandas captured the series victory, taking five of the six contests from the Shuckers.
After not recording a hit last night, Wes Clarke and Yeison Coca each tallied a pair of singles early in the second inning to give the Shuckers their first scoring threat. Trash Pandas starter RHP Brett Kerry ended up stranding both runners on base.
LHP Nick Bennett (L, 6-11) retired the first two batters in the third inning before issuing a two-out walk to Logan O’Hoppe. O’Hoppe would score on an RBI double down the right-field line from Preston Palmeiro to plate the game’s first run. The Trash Pandas erupted for four more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 5-1. After an error led to the first run, Jordyn Adams and O’Hoppe capped off the inning with a pair of RBI singles.
On the first pitch of the sixth inning, Cam Devanney lined a solo home run over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 5-1. Devanney currently leads the Shuckers with 20 home runs on the season.
With Aaron Hernandez (W, 3-4) firing a scoreless seventh inning, the Shuckers had the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning against RHP Ben Joyce. After Devanney reached on a hit by pitch, Zavier Warren singled, and Jason Lopez walked on four pitches to load the bases for Yeison Coca. Joyce induced an inning-ending groundout to second base to preserve the four-run lead.
LHP Jack Dashwood tossed a scoreless ninth inning to seal the Trash Pandas’ victory.
