BUFFALO NY — The Buffalo Bisons once again came out on the right end of a high scoring affair against the Rochester Red Wings, defeating their Thruway rivals 14-8 on Friday night at Sahlen Field.
The game saw huge bursts of scoring by both teams, an attempted early comeback by the Red Wings and ended with a position player Trevor Schwecke the final outs for Buffalo.
Addison Barger kicked off the game for the Herd with a bases loaded walk. The Buffalo Bisons take a 1-0 early lead in the top of the first. Luis De Los Santos kept at it for the Herd when he hit an RBI groundout for the second out of the inning. His RBI brought in Spencer Horwitz as the Bisons go up 2-0.
Rochester received their first run of the night thanks to Bisons catcher Jamie Ritchie allowing the pitch to get passed him. Jake Noll capitalizes on the passed ball and cashes in on their first run of the night. The Red Wings trail 2-1 in the top of the second inning.
The Herd added one more thanks to a Rafael Lantigua sacrifice fly. The man on third, Ritchie, tagged up and beat the throw from center field. The home team is up 3-1 in the bottom of the second.
Ritchie kept himself present in the box score when he got one up the middle of the diamond. Tanner Morris sped home to put Buffalo up 4-1. Ernie Clement helped boost the Buffalo edge when he hit a two run double into deep left center field. Bisons further his team’s dominance as they went up 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Herd refused to let up in this half inning as they had another scoring play after Barger brought in Lantigua on a single to the second baseman. 7-1 after for four.
The Rochester Red Wings got their fifth inning rally started with a Luis Garcia home run over the left field wall. Rochester continued their inning of dominance because of a pitching change. LHP Jimmy Robbins walked in two runs with the bases loaded.
The Red Wings further capitalized on the inning after a Horwitz fielding error allowed Erick Mejia to reach home. Rochester is within two in the top of the fifth inning, 7-5.
Buffalo refused to let the top of the inning waver their confidence when Lantigua hit a blooper into right field. Both Morris and Mccoy to score. The Bisons extend 9-5 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Herd added insurance runs throughout the bottom of the sixth inning starting with a De Los Santos double. Barger made it home to put them up 10-5. Cameron Eden blew the game open after a monster two run single to right. He allowed De Los Santos and Morris to reach home.
The next batter, Lantigua, hit another sacrifice fly to right and allowed Ritchie to score. The next batter, Horwitz, kept the scoring trend alive and reached first on a fielding error. Eden then brought the game score to a staggering 14-5 after six innings.
Rochester kept their head in the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a Jake Noll homer. They still trail 14-6.
In the top of the ninth inning, Buffalo inserted position player Trevor Schwecke into the game. He let up one hit, one walk and two earned runs. The Rochester Red Wings left defeated 14-8.
The two teams reconvene in tomorrow’s game starting at 7:05. Buffalo looks to extend their winning streak to three straight games.
