Kernels fall 3-0 at Beloit in regular season finale

BELOIT, Wis. - The Kernels lost 3-0 to the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale. Cedar Rapids hosts Kane County on Wednesday night in Game One of the Midwest League Quarterfinals. The Kernels finished the 2017 regular season with a 75-65 record while Beloit closed at 65-73. Monday's game was played in exactly two hours, the fastest nine-inning game of the season.
Beloit scored right away in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Snappers added a pair of runs in the eighth inning, making the score 3-0. Back to back singles by
Beardsley (4-9) took the loss, despite allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out three and walked two.
The Kernels defense turned three double plays on the day, matching a season-high.
Cedar Rapids opens up the 2017 Midwest League playoffs at home on Wednesday night against the Kane County Cougars, the Midwest League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. First pitch of the best of three series is at 6:35 p.m. Game two and three, if necessary, will be played at Kane County.
