MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp were able to take a late lead and came away with a 3-1 win over the Memphis Redbirds Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

With the game tied at one, Jacksonville (34-40) took the late lead in the top of the seventh. Marty Costes and Jonathan Guzmanstarted the seventh with consecutive singles off Memphis (38-36) reliever Packy Naughton (L, 0-1). Xavier Edwards laid down a sacrifice advancing both runners to second and third. Javier Sanoja knocked a ground ball to first baseman Alfonso Rivas III but Costes was able to score the go-ahead run after a wild throw home. Guzman went to third on the wild throw and scored on a sac fly from Troy Johnston pushing the lead to 3-1.

The Redbirds’ bats were silenced in the late stages as Jacksonville got scoreless innings from relievers Anthony Maldonado and George Soriano (S, 1).

After a scoreless first inning, the Jumbo Shrimp opened the scoring in the top of the second. Will Banfield (5) blasted a solo home run with two outs giving Jacksonville the initial lead, 1-0.

After four scoreless innings, Memphis evened the game in the top of the fifth. Nick Dunn (5) led off the inning with a solo home run, tying the game at one.

Jacksonville got a great start from RHP Tristan Stevens. In his Triple-A debut, Stevens tossed four scoreless innings, scattering three hits while walking two and striking out two.

Jacksonville and Memphis wrap up their series Sunday at 2:05 p.m. ET from AutoZone Park. The Jumbo Shrimp will hand the ball to RHP Valente Bellozo (1-2, 5.66 ERA) and the Redbirds will counter with LHP Nick Raquet (0-3, 4.84 ERA). Coverage begins at 1:50 p.m. ET on ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
