LANSING, Mich. – Jonah Advincula delivered a game-tying RBI double in the sixth and a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth, and the Lake County Captains (21-14) rallied past the Lansing Lugnuts (17-18), 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Jackson Field.

The Lugnuts’ season-high four-game winning streak came to an end, although it did not go quietly.

Danny Bautista, Jr. and Dereck Salom opened the last of the ninth with singles off Lake County right-hander Zane Morehouse and were sacrificed into scoring position by Carlos Amaya. The Captains elected to intentionally walk pinch-hitter Colby Halter, and the strategy paid off when Jonny Butler hit into a 4-6-3 game-ending double play.

The Lugnuts scored all of their runs in the third inning against Captains starter Juan Zapata. Butler doubled to start off the inning and Henry Bolte knocked him in with a double of his own. Euribiel Ángeles followed with an RBI single to put the Lugnuts up 2-0.

However, the 2-0 deficit was no issue for Lake County. C.J. Kayfus delivered an RBI single off Lansing starter Grant Judkins in the fifth inning to halve the deficit, and Advincula tied the game an inning later off reliever Jake Garland.

In the top of the eighth, Jose Devers led off with a double against Garland and moved to third on a Maick Collado groundout. The Nuts turned to lefty Colton Johnson, but Advincula snuck a grounder through the left side of the infield to bring in Devers with what proved to be the game-winning run.

In a no-decision, Judkins pitched 4 ⅔ innings, striking out four while allowing a run on six hits and a walk. Lansing third baseman Salom led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three singles. DH Cameron Masterman went 0-for-3 with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 15 games.

The series is currently tied at a game apiece with game three taking place Thursday night at 7:05 p.m., pitting Lugnuts right-hander Mitch Myers against Captains right-hander Trenton Denholm, the reigning Midwest League Pitcher of the Week. Gates open at 6 p.m. on a Coors Light Thirsty Thursday. For tickets and further information, visit milb.com/lansing or call (517) 485-4500.
