LANSING, Mich. – Lansing Lugnuts first baseman/outfielder Danny Bautista, Jr. was named the Midwest League's Player of the Week for the week of July 25-30, Minor League Baseball announced Monday.
The 22-year-old Bautista, Jr., signed by the Oakland Athletics as an international free agent in 2017, batted .458 with a .708 slugging percentage, collecting 11 hits in 24 at-bats with three doubles, one home run and four RBIs in six games as the Lugnuts split a six-game series at Quad Cities.
Bautista, Jr. increased the level of his performance as the week went on, collecting a single in each of the first two games, a single and a double in each of the next three games, and finishing with two singles and a two-run homer on Sunday. His closest competition for the weekly honor was teammate Colby Thomas, who slashed .462/.481/.654 with 12 hits in 26 at-bats, two doubles, one triple, one walk and one stolen base. The two Lugnuts topped all Midwest Leaguers in batting average for the week.
In July in total, Danny Bautista, Jr. batted .354 thanks to 34 hits in 24 games, the second most hits in the Midwest League behind only Lake County's Milan Tolentino.
Bautista, Jr. joins pitcher Blake Beers (MWL Pitcher of the Week, week of May 9-14) as Lugnuts honored by Minor League Baseball with a weekly award this season.
