LANSING, Mich. – Dayan Frias tucked a two-out, three-run go-ahead homer over the 23-foot left field wall in the seventh inning, launching the Lake County Captains (4-9, 35-43) to a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Lansing Lugnuts (5-8, 36-42) on Friday night at Jackson Field.
The Lugnuts had scored in each of the first five innings, including a solo home run from Caeden Trenkle, in building leads of 6-1 after the third, 7-2 after the fourth and 8-4 after the fifth inning.
But Junior Sanquintin hit a two-out, two-run homer in the sixth inning off Kumar Nambiar to draw the Captains within 8-6, and Frias followed an inning later with the crucial blast off Jack Owen to finish the Lake County comeback.
In the loss, debuting Lugnuts DH Colby Thomas went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and an RBI double, and Danny Bautista, Jr. and Jack Winkler each collected three hits of the Lugnuts’ 13 total hits.
Lansing starter Jose Dicochea allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks in four innings in a no-decision, striking out three.
The two clubs have split the first four games of the six-game series, bringing up Page Fence Giants Night on Saturday, with vintage baseball played in pre-game and LAFCU Fireworks following the 7:05 p.m. game.
