It was a beauty of a three-hit night for Jacob Wilson.

2023 first-rounder Wilson led the way, singling in the first inning and hustling into second on an error by center fielder Emmanuel Rodriguez; hustling out a double in the third inning, with a dodge around the tag by second baseman Mikey Perez, en route to scoring the Lugnuts’ first run on an RBI single by Danny Bautista, Jr., and jabbing a single into right field in the eighth inning to finish 3-for-5.
Pérez complemented his efforts, singling in a pair of runs in the fourth inning to tie the score at 3-3, and following up with an RBI single in a two-run sixth that drew the Nuts within 6-5.
But Lansing came no closer, with Cedar Rapids tallying a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Lugnuts starting pitcher Jose Dicochea tossed four innings plus three batters into the fifth inning, charged with six runs on six hits and five walks. Kumar Nambiar followed with 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) before John Beller recorded 1 1/3 perfect innings.
In the loss, Bautista, Jr.’s single extended his hitting streak to 11 games and his on-base streak to 16 games.
Lansing sends lefty Brady Basso (2.97 ERA) to the mound for the penultimate game of the series, taking on Kernels right-hander Andrew Morris (7.20 ERA) at 6:35 p.m. local / 7:35 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
The Nuts’ next home game is on August 8, beginning a two-week homestand against Fort Wayne and Great Lakes. Tickets are available via lansinglugnuts.com or by calling (517) 485-4500 during office hours.
