DAVENPORT, IA – Euribiel Ángeles, Brennan Milone and Junior Pérez each knocked a two-run double, and the Lansing Lugnuts (12-17, 43-51) beat the Quad Cities River Bandits (12-17, 44-51), 7-4, on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park.

With the win, the Lugnuts set up the potential for a six-game series split with a victory in Sunday’s finale.

Ángeles’s two-run double off Luinder Avila in the second inning, a two-out line drive lost in the sun by left fielder River Town, gave the Lugnuts an early 2-1 lead.

After Quad Cities tied the game on a Mac Lardner wild pitch in the fourth inning, Milone’s two-run double off reliever Luis Barroso, a flare that fell right beside the right field line, put the Lugnuts back in front, 4-2.
T.J. Schofield-Sam delivered an RBI single three batters later for insurance – which proved important when Quad Cities tallied twice in the bottom of the seventh against Lardner to close within 5-4.

But Kumar Nambiar protected the lead with a double-play ball from Town, and Pérez rebuilt the lead to 7-4 with a two-run double in the eighth off Wander Arias that was overrun by center fielder Gavin Cross.

Charles Hall blanked the River Bandits over the final two innings for his first save, making a victor of Lardner, who had tossed 2 2/3 innings in relief of Jose Dicochea. The southpaw from Gonzaga improved to 7-0, tying for the league lead in victories.

In the winning cause, right fielder Colby Thomas went 3-for-5 with two singles and a hustle double, and Schofield-Sam and Danny Bautista, Jr. added two-hit nights.

The Nuts send lefty Brady Basso (2.94 ERA) to the mound at 2 p.m. Eastern / 1 p.m. local for the finale, taking on 2021 Royals first-rounder Frank Mozzicato.

The Lugnuts’ next home game is on August 8, beginning a two-week homestand against Fort Wayne and Great Lakes. Tickets are available via lansinglugnuts.com or by calling (517) 485-4500 during office hours.
