The Midland RockHounds take pride in volunteering, assisting, rewarding, and supporting organizations in the Permian Basin. With your support, the RockHounds will continue to make a lasting and positive impact for many years to come. Below are just a few examples of what The RockHounds offer for the community.
This foundation honors the memory of a truly remarkable person. Scott, who served as the franchise’s Director of Communications, passed away in 1996, at age 27, following a courageous two-year battle with a rare form of cancer. The perpetual foundation (part of the Permian Basin Area Foundation) established in his memory donates thousands of dollars annually to West Texas children’s charities. Scott’s legacy was built on his remarkable ability to capture the imagination of an auditorium of classroom full of kids. His boundless energy and enthusiasm was the driving force behind “Juice The Moose’s Grand Slam Program."
Our in-school program has evolved but the goal remains: utilize professional baseball as a vehicle to bring a positive message to school kids across the Permian Basin. The 45-minute program encourages the kids to be drug free, stay in school, work as a team, and keep physically fit. It’s all very interactive ... we want the kids to have fun ... and includes an appearance by Rocky RockHound. Each student also receives an activity book and a ticket to a RockHounds game.
Scoring In Schools now reaches approximately 10,000 kids each school year!
The RockHounds award four (or more) $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in West Texas each school year. Two scholarships are reserved for students entering the Sports Management field, and the other two will be for any field of higher education. The scholarship program, inaugurated in 2014, is funded through the West Texas Sports Banquet & Memorabilia Auction.
Each spring and summer, the RockHounds “share the game” with kids from across West Texas, hosting our annual baseball camp at Momentum Bank Ballpark. The camp offers instruction from RockHounds players and coaches, tailored for a variety of ability and experience levels. For more information call our front office at 432-520-2255.
The annual Victory Run raises cancer awareness and benefits the Gifts of Hope and Scott Seator Foundations (Gifts of Hope is dedicated to supporting cancer patients in the Permian Basin, providing assistance to those in need of lodging, medical and support). In 2023, the RockHounds will host their 16th Annual Victory Run, Walk & Ride event, continuing a community effort which has raised more than a quarter-million dollars to date.
