WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Five runs were scored in the series opener between the Sacramento River Cats and the Round Rock Express, but unfortunately for Sacramento all five belonged to the other side as Round Rock captured a 5-0 win on Tuesday.

Just one mistake from River Cats (42-28) starter Carson Seymour (2-5) made the difference, as the Express (34-35) took the lead for good in the second inning on a two-out, three-run homer by Jax Biggers. It was just the second homer of the year for Biggers, but both have come in the past four games.

Meanwhile, Sacramento struggled to get anything going against Round Rock starter Jack Leiter, who was dealing throughout his outing by scattering five hits while striking out eight in a new career-best 7.0 innings. Upon his exit, he flipped the ball to Grant Anderson and eventually Daniel Robert, both of whom worked scoreless appearances in their only frame.

There was not much offense to go around for the River Cats, as none of their five hits went for extra bases and they had just three chances with a runner in scoring position, failing to record a hit in all three instances. Only Blake Sabol finished with a multi-hit night for Sacramento, while Logan Porter earned a knock in his Sacramento debut.

Tossing one inning in a rehab assignment was right-hander Austin Warren, who yielded a hit and also punched out one while facing five hitters. Meanwhile, Seymour was charged with the loss after allowing the three runs on four hits with three strikeouts in five frames.

Compounding a River Cats loss was a win by the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, as they topped the El Paso Chihuahuas tonight to widen their gap to four games over Sacramento with only five to play.

The River Cats will look to make up that ground beginning tomorrow as the two teams line up for the second of this six-game set in an afternoon matinee that begins at 12:05 p.m.
