San Jose, CA- The San Jose Giants are set to unveil significant upgrades to Excite Ballpark on the team’s Opening Night, April 6. Excite Ballpark, previously known as Municipal Stadium, has welcomed more than 8 million fans through its gates since opening in 1942, and the 2023 season will shine brighter than ever.

Beginning with field upgrades, a new state of the art LED lighting system will display on-field action like never before. The new stadium lights, overseen and installed by the City of San Jose and Rosendin Electric, will greatly contribute to an enhanced playing experience while simultaneously increasing fan safety in and around the ballpark. In addition to a total overhaul of ballpark lighting fixtures, the organization also invested in a brand new infield playing surface. Furthermore, a second batting cage has been added to offer more space and opportunity for Giants player development.

Away from the playing field, a complete network and IT infrastructure overhaul will provide front office employees, game day staff, players, coaches and fans with a vastly improved, connected experience. In addition, remodels of the IBEW/NECA VIP Deck Bars, Gigante’s Alley Food Stands and Turkey Mike’s BBQ kitchen were completed to enhance the customer experience and facility capabilities. Finally, patrons will notice when they arrive at the ballpark that the stadium’s main parking lot was repaved and repainted.

“The upgrades made to Excite Ballpark represent the largest collective investment in this facility in one offseason in decades,” said Ben Taylor, San Jose Giants General Manager. “Our organization prides itself on improving our 81-year-old home every single year, and this is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the City of San Jose and our ownership, Diamond Baseball Holdings. I’m excited for both fans and players to experience what are some of the most incremental and visible improvements in recent memory.”

From an operational standpoint, the organization is excited to announce a new partnership with Oak View Group Hospitality. OVG Hospitality, the food and beverage division of OVG, will streamline daily operations, implement technology solutions to bring faster service and an overall more seamless fan experience, and rebrand and refresh the F&B program. The OVGH team will infuse creativity, fun, and familiar regional favorites across menus and concepts. New food and beverage elements at Excite Ballpark will include a new cashless point-of-sale system and a number of expanded offerings at designated locations.
