Every effort will be made to play the scheduled games at Four Winds Field. Below are our policies and procedures should inclement weather arise.
If it is raining before the game...
If it is raining at Four Winds Field before the start of a game, the South Bend Cubs tarp crew is hard at work protecting the field against the elements. Because of this, if the rain stops before the game's scheduled start time the game will continue as planned. If the rain continues into the scheduled game time, South Bend Cubs management will invoke a rain delay.
If the game is called before the scheduled first pitch, the decision will be immediately posted on all social media platforms, team website, and will promptly be disseminated to local news outlets.
If it begins to rain during the game...
If it begins to rain during the game, the South Bend Cubs tarp crew will quickly cover the infield with a large tarp. At that time, game officials will work with local weather outlets to ascertain the immediate weather outlook. If game officials feel that the inclement weather will pass, a rain delay is put into effect. If game officials feel that the inclement weather will not pass in a reasonable amount of time, an official rainout is announced.
Rainout Ticket Policy
If less than 5 innings of a game (4 1/2 innings if the South Bend Cubs are ahead) are played, your ticket can be exchanged for good for any regular season game later in the season and may be exchanged at Four Winds Field box office for a ticket of equal or lesser value subject to availability. If five or more innings of a game are played and the game is called due to weather or field conditions, the game is considered a completed game.
Rain Policy Terminology
Rain Delay: A game that is under a rain delay is in an official delay but will resume play later that day. Tickets cannot be exchanged in the event of a rain delay.
Rainout/Postponement: A game that is rained out or postponed will not be played that day due to inclement weather. In the event of a rainout or postponement, your ticket will be good for any regular season game later in the season and may be exchanged at Four Winds Field box office for a ticket of equal or lesser value subject to availability.
Suspended Game: A game in which five innings are not completed before being postponed will be suspended and picked up at the point of suspension on the following day or the next day the South Bend Cubs play that team again. If the South Bend Cubs do not play that team again, the game will not be completed. Fans, however, will be able to use their tickets from that game for any subsequent regular season South Bend Cubs game.
