He appeared in the 1911 World Series with the Giants and later managed in the Minor-Leagues with Jersey City, Albany, Reading & Buffalo.

He also played professional basketball with the Syracuse Nationals.

He was named by the Toronto Baseball Writers Association as the Blue Jays “Pitcher of the Year” in 1977 when he led the team with 13 wins. Was selected to the 1979 American League All-Star team. Pitched a 1-hitter vs Texas Rangers on April 29,1979 and a no-hitter against Ashville in the minor leagues in 1973.

Holds a major league record by hitting a grand slam home run in consecutive innings on June 24, 1968.

Played in four World Series with the Cubs, and became the first major league player to hit four grand slam home runs in one season – 1911.

Served as the Community Owned Baseball Club’s Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, General Manager, Business Manager and Trainer since 1961. Has been named International League “Executive of the Year” a record four times 1970, 73, 76, 94. He was awarded the National Association of Professional Baseball “Presidents Trophy” in 1987. Served as International League Director 1979-97 and IL Vice President since 1997. Instrumental in keeping professional baseball in Central New York and led the drive to build a new multi-purpose sports facility in Syracuse. The new stadium’s address Tex Simone Drive was named in his honor in 1997.

Was a member of the 1970 International League Pennant, Governors Cup and Little World Series Championship team and the 1976 Governors Cup Champions. He is the only Chiefs player to ever record two 5-hit games, Played in the major leagues with Chicago (NL) and New York (AL).

A Syracuse native and graduate of West Genesee High School where he played in 1974. He pitched a no-hitter for Holyoke on June 8, 1080. His career spanned 17 years, twelve at the major league level appearing in 514 games with Milwaukee, Houston, Chicago (NL), St. Louis and Kanas City. He recorded 20 saves with Houston in 1983 and as a perfect 9-0 with St. Louis in 1989.

Was an original member of the Syracuse Chiefs Board of Directors and served as the Club’s Vice President in 1966-67, and Chairman of the Board from 1968-72. He was instrumental in keeping professional baseball in Syracuse following the disastrous 1969 fire that gutted MacArthur Stadium.

Was considered the greatest hitting pitcher in Chiefs history, hitting 12 home runs among his 128 base hits.

He pitched a no hitter for the Minneapolis (AA) on August 10, 1950.

His first play-by-play broadcast was a game between St. Louis & Brooklyn using Morse code to describe each pitch from a Western Union ticker tape machine to his radio audience.

Selected by the Florida Marlins in 1992 expansion draft. Won his first Major League game July 1, 1994 against the Atlanta Braves. Pitched in 234 Major League games over eight seasons with Florida, Houston, San Francisco, and Oakland.

Appeared in a career high 70 games with San Francisco in 1998, registering a 3.07 ERA.

He played with the Syracuse Stars in 1926 and batted .300 and led the team with 29 stolen bases. Went on to play 1189 games in the Major Leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1928-1940. Led the National League in stolen bases three times. He played in four Major League All Star Games including the 1933 Inaugural Game at Chicago. Was the Most Valuable Player of the 1931 World Series when he batted .500 and was selected as the Associated Press “Athlete of the Year”. He also appeared in the 1928 and the 1934 World Series with the Cardinals and batted .418 overall.

“The Captain”

Syracuse Chiefs catcher during the 1969 Governors Cup Championship season.

Batted .363 in 28 games due to his military service in the United States Army.

Went on to play for the New York Yankees from 1969-1979 and was named A.L. Rookie of the Year in 1970 and A.L. Most Valuable Player in 1976. Was the undisputed leader and most respected player on the Yankee teams that won three A.L. Pennants in a row (1976-78) and two World Championship (1977-78). He was a six-time A.L. All Star, and was a tremendous defensive catcher who won three consecutive Gold Glove Awards (1973-75).

His number “15” was retired immediately by the New York Yankees after his untimely death.

Pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1954 when they won their 5th Governors Cup Championship and was named I.L. Rookie of the Year when he won 17 games and led the league with 2.87 ERA. Won 15 games the next season, 1955 for Syracuse and is 9th All-Time with a 2.99 ERA. He played 12 years in the Major Leagues with Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Houston and appeared in 286 games.

Syracuse Stars pitcher 1896-1897, led the Stars to the Eastern League Championship in 1897 with 21 wins. Held franchise record for consecutive wins (10) from 1896-1963. Pitched in 513 games in the Major Leagues with Boston (NL), Pittsburgh and St. Louis from 1898-1910. He no-hit Washington, August 7th, 1899 and still holds the modern day record with 45 complete games in 1902. He won 248 games in the major leagues and was an eight-time 20-game winner.

Pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1968-1973. He is the franchise all-time strikeout leader with 583 and ranks 4th in innings, 765, 5th in wins, 47 and 8th in games pitched, 162. He was a member of two Governors Cup Championship clubs in 1969 and 1970. Holds the club record by tossing three consecutive shutouts in 1973 his final three games in a Chiefs uniform. Pitched a one-hitter vs Tidewater June 15th, 1973 and recorded 15 strikeouts in a game vs Louisville on June 5th, 1971. Played in the major leagues with Washington, New York (AL) and Atlanta.

Spent four seasons in the major leagues with Detroit and Toronto.

Spent seven seasons in the major leagues with Chicago (AL) and St. Louis (NL) and was selected to the 1954 American League All Star team.

Central New York resident who pitched 181 games in nine Major League seasons with Pittsburgh and Brooklyn winning 18-games in 1906. Was only the fourth pitcher in Major League history to pitch and win two complete games in one day vs St. Louis in 1906. Selected to the Post Standard, All-Time Native Syracuse Baseball team in 1939.

Played for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1969-1972 batting .300 in 1969.

He is tenth all-time with a career batting average of .292. He was a member of two Governors Cup Championship clubs in 1969 and 1970. He went on to play eight years in the major leagues with New York (AL), Milwaukee (AL) and Atlanta.

Native of Syracuse who was a three sport star at Christian Brothers Academy and was named 1st Team All City catcher in 1947. Played baseball at Syracuse University in 1949-50.

Signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 1950 and was named best defensive catcher at Burlington in 1951 and Nashville in 1955. Played in 212 games for the Chiefs in 1961 and 1962. Played in the Major Leagues with Cincinnati 1957 thru 1960 and Washington in 1961.

Posted a 0.68 ERA in 40-innings in 1976. Played 14 years in the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees 1975-1988 and captured the 1978 Cy Young Award when he went 25-3. Was named to four All Star Teams and was a three time 20-game winner. His Yankee teams in 1977, 1978 and 1981 captured World Series Championships.

Played in five Major league All-Star games, two World Series and led the American League in 1989 with 36 home runs and the National League in 1992 with 35 home runs.

Was a catcher for Ithaca College in 1962 when they reached the College World Series.

Was signed by the Boston Red Sox and later played, coached, managed and scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Recorded 757 wins in 28 years as LeMoyne Baseball Coach with 13 NCAA Division Tournament. Was named ECAC and Atlantic Metro Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1993.

Played on four consecutive pennant winning teams (1923-1926) and appeared in 1926 World Series. Became the first Major League Player to wear glasses on the field and was chosen twice as Minor League Player of the Year.

He clouted three home runs and drove in eight on May 17th, 1973 vs Rochester and finished 10th all time with 52 home runs in a Chiefs uniform. Set Franchise record with four-grand slams in a season – 1973. Played 11 years in the Major Leagues with New York (AL), Toronto and Cleveland.

Played infield for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1970 when the team captured the IL pennant, Governors’ Cup and Little League World Series Championship. Lead the Chiefs with seven RBI in 4 game Governors’ Cup Championship Series versus Columbus. Compiled 304-261 record in four seasons as the Syracuse manager, leading the Chiefs to three straight playoff appearances and the 1976 Governors’ Cup. Is the only person in Syracuse franchise history to win the Governors’ Cup as a player and manager. Has managed in the Major Leagues for 27 years in Atlanta and Toronto, winning the 1995 World Series and five National League pennants. His clubs made the playoffs 15 times.

Named American League Manager of the Year in 1985 and National League Manager of the Year in 1991, 2004, and 2005.

Played first base and outfield for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1951 when he batted .294 in 129 games. He became the Syracuse Chiefs first player of color that season and was voted the “Fans” Most Valuable Player.

He went on to play 12 seasons in the Major Leagues with Cleveland, Philadelphia (AL), Kansas City, Minnesota, Los Angeles (AL) and Philadelphia (NL).

He was a five time American League All Star first basemen and seven time Gold Glove Award winner.

Syracuse Stars shortstop from 1924-25. Was named International League All Star in 1924 when he batted .271. He was regarded as one of the top fielding shortstops of his time, establishing an all time franchise record with 173 double plays in 1925. He played 15 years in the Major Leagues with St. Louis (NL), Philadelphia (AL), Pittsburg, Cincinnati and Boston (NL). He appeared in two World Series with the Cardinals in 1926 and 1928 and was named World Series Most Valuable Player in 1926 when he batted .417.

Played for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1978-1981. A fan favorite throughout his career, he was voted the Most Popular Chiefs Player in 1980. Selected to the International League All-Star Team in 1981 when he batted .292 with 20 home runs. Played in the Major Leagues with Toronto and Minnesota before heading to Japan where he played for 10 years amassing 277 home runs and 901 RBI.

He was the first American to win the Japanese League Triple Crown in 1984 and was also named the league’s MVP – only the 3rd American to be so honored.

A perennial Japanese All Star and Gold Glove Winner he also hit the longest recorded home run in Japanese Baseball history – 531 feet out of Nishinomiya Stadium in 1988.

He played 10 years in the Major Leagues with New York (AL), San Francisco and Los Angeles (NL) and had a .281 career batting average.

He spent three seasons with the Seibu Lions of the Pacific League in Japan where he hit 85 home runs.

One of the best hitting Major League second basemen during the late nineteenth century. Played 13 years in the Major Leagues with Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis, Chicago (NL) and Syracuse (AA).

Syracuse Chiefs first baseman in 1936 betting .318.

He received Chiefs MVP that season in voting by Syracuse fans. Still holds a Chiefs record with 21 triples in one season and was selected to the International League All Star Team.

Played 12 seasons in the Major Leagues with eight teams and appeared in the 1939 and 1943 World Series. Remembered as the Yankee player who replaced Lou Gehrig at first base on May 2, 1939 in Detroit.

Played 10 years in the Major Leagues with Detroit, Toronto, Texas and San Francisco.

Was a four year letterman at Michigan University and appeared in four Rose Bowls.

Central New York resident and graduate of Liverpool High School who earned All-County recognition three times, 1988-1990. Pitched at LeMoyne College where he compiled a 22-7 career record and was named to the All-Conference team three times.

Earned Second Team All-America honors in 1993.

Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 1st round (24th overall pick) of the 1993 Amateur Draft and reached the Major Leagues with Oakland in 2000.

Made 27 appearances for the Syracuse Chiefs in 2001.

Pitched for the Chiefs in 1993 and 1994 and was named to the International League’s All-Star Team in 1994. Helped the Chiefs to the Governors’ Cup finals in 1994 and set club records with 33 regular season saves and 13 in the month of August.

Spent 16 years in professional baseball as a player and appeared in 162 major league games in parts of nine seasons with Montreal, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Atlanta and Toronto.

Pitched in the 1991 World Series in Atlanta.

Played right field for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1994 after being the 16th player selected in the 1991 June draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Was named to the International League All-Star Team and also received ‘Rookie of the Year’ award. He batted .344 to win the batting title and help lead the Chiefs to the finals of the Governor’s Cup Playoffs. He played in 1,951 games during his 15 year Major League career with Toronto, Los Angeles (NL), Arizona and New York (NL). Had a Major League batting average of .281 with 328 home runs and 2,003 base hits. He was a two time Major league All- Star in 1999 and 2002 and hit four home runs in one game on May 23, 2002 with the Dodgers.

He was 15-10 with a 3.74 ERA and 5 shutouts in 1946. He also tossed two no-hitters that season, April 30th vs Buffalo and July 29th vs Toronto, and led the league with 1.000 fielding percentage.

Was a member of the Chief’s 1942 Governor’s Cup championship team.

Played five seasons in the Major Leagues with Cincinnati, Washington (AL), St. Louis (NL), Detroit and Chicago (AL).

“Chris”

He was a three sport star at Liverpool High School from 1982-1984 in baseball, football and basketball. Was the 3rd selection in the 1984 June draft by the Cincinnati Reds and went on to play 17 years in professional baseball. He appeared in 548 games in the Major Leagues with Cincinnati, Houston, Colorado, New York (NL), San Diego, Arizona, San Francisco and Milwaukee (AL) and finished with a .252 batting average.

Played in 117 games for the Syracuse Chiefs during the 1999 and 2001 seasons.

“Mickey”

Syracuse Chiefs outfielder during the 1964 and 1965 seasons. He was an International League All Star in 1965 when he batted .281 with 10 home runs and 73 RBI.

He finished 3rd in the league with 26 doubles and set a franchise record with 344 putouts in center field and led the league with a .992 fielding percentage.

He played 15 years in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers (1964-1978).

He was a member of the 1968 World Champion Detroit Tigers and won four gold gloves during his career in 1968, ’69, ’70 and ’73.

“Sweet Lou”

Syracuse Chiefs outfielder in 1963 and batted .296 with 15 home runs and 71 RBI. Also scored 90 rubs and had 46 extra base hits for the International League North Division Champions.

Played eight seasons in the Major Leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Braves, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles California Angels.

Appeared in two World Series with the Dodgers in 1965 and ’66 and batted .296 with two home runs.

Long-time Syracuse resident who founded the Kren Bat Company in the early 1900’s. His company manufactured over 100,000 bats per year during its peak and over eight million total. His clients included Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Honus Wagner, Rogers Hornsby, Frankie Frisch and Jimmie Foxx among others.

“Chief”

Syracuse Chiefs outfielder in 1976 and 1977. Batted .290 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI in 1997. That season he hit four home runs in one game vs Columbus, July 14.

Named Most Valuable Player in consecutive seasons in 1971 at Three Rivers of the Eastern League when he led the league with a .323 batting average and again in 1972 at Indianapolis when he again led the league at .325.

Played six seasons in the Major leagues with Cincinnati, San Diego and the New York Yankees. Is an accomplished artist whose paintings hang in the White House and Pentagon.

“Gus”

Syracuse Stars catcher in 1927 who batted .372 with 8 home runs and 54 RBI in only 82 games. Played 17 seasons in the Major Leagues (1928-‘45) with St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies and was hailed as the best defensive catcher of the 1930’s. Played in five World Series, two with the Cardinals (1930 & ‘31) and three with the Giants (1933, ’36 & ’37), and appeared in Major League All-Star games in 1935 & ’37. Batted .366 with the Cardinals in his rookie season in 1930 with 59 RBI in 76 games and batted over .300 two more times in 1935 and ’36 with the Giants.

“Jim”

Pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1946-‘47 and again in 1949-’50. Was a member of the 1947 Governors’ Cup Championship team when he won 20 games and recorded a 3.08 ERA in 37 starts. In 1946 he led the International League with 17 wins and was selected to the International League All-Star team. Also pitched and won both ends of a doubleheader on July 5, 1946 vs Buffalo. One of only six 20-game winners in Chiefs history and ranks 3rd all time with 50 wins and 5th in innings pitched with 725. Played 18 years of professional baseball and spent one season in the Major league with the Boston Braves in 1948.

“Danny”

Syracuse Stars infielder/outfielder during the 1926 season when he was named to the International League All-Star team.

Set three Syracuse Stars franchise records that seasons batting average (.364), home runs (31), and RBI in a game (9) – a record that still stands today.

Also scored 120 runs and drove in 120 that season.

Played in the Major Leagues with Detroit, Boston (AL) and St. Louis (NL).

Was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals early expansion into the Minor League farm system.

Played first base for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1944 and 1995 after being named USA Today’s Minor League Player of the Year in 1992 at Dunedin. Led the Chiefs to the Governors’ Cup Finals in 1994 when he batted .319 with 19 home runs and 58 RBI in 85 games. Was named to the International League All Star team in 1995 when he batted .318 with 22 home runs and 74 RBI in 91 games.

Drove in seven runs on August 28, 1994 and was one of only seven players in the 62 year history of MacArthur Stadium to homer over the center field wall – 434 feet away on August 29, 1994.

He played in 2035 games during his 17 year Major League career with Toronto, Florida and New York (NL).

Had 473 home runs and 1512 RBI with 2038 base hits. He was a two time Major League All Star in 2000 & 2003 and hit four home runs in one game on September 25, 2003 with Toronto and twice hit three home runs in a game. Was named the Spotting News Player of the Year, won the Hank Aaron Award and the Roberto Clemente Award in 2000 with Toronto when he batted .344 and 41 home runs and 137 RBI.

Pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1974 until 1976.

Named the 1974 International League Most Valuable Pitcher after posting a 15-10 record with a 3.20 ERA while leading the league in complete games (12) and innings pitched (221) in his rookie season.

Considered one of the best hitting pitchers in Chiefs history – drive in 12 runs during the 1974 season.

Spent 13 years in the Major Leagues with the Baltimore Orioles.

Appeared in 356 Major League games and over 2,100 innings while winning 138 games, including 20 in 1980.

Also appeared in the 1979 and 1983 World Series and was named to the 1981 American League All-Star Team.

Syracuse Chiefs outfielder from 1988-1992. Member of the 1989 International League Pennant winning team and batted .296 in 1990, his best season at the plate. Hit a walk off grand slam home run in the bottom of the 10th inning of the final home game of the 1991 season to defeat Scranton WB, 10-7. Named Florida State League Most Valuable Player in 1982.

Had a .292 career hitting average in 12 minor League seasons.

Played in the Major Leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1985.

Arguably one of the most popular players ever to put on a Chiefs uniform prompting fans to call “STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU” for each of his plate appearances.

Struck out 139 batters in 65 innings pitched in 1971 and recorded 20 strikeouts vs Bishop Ludden on May 15.

He was selected by the San Francisco Giants as their first round pick (18th overall) in the 1971 June Amateur Draft.

Led the Texas League with 183 strikeouts in 1972 with Amarillo and led the league with 14 wins and 185 innings pitched in 1975 with Lafayette while finishing second with strikeouts.

Led the Pacific Coast League in 1977 with 135 strikeouts at Phoenix and led the International League in 1978 with 2.78 ERA while with Charleston.

Finished his professional baseball career with the Syracuse Chiefs in 1982 making the start on Opening Day.

Played in the Major Leagues with San Francisco (1976) and Houston (1978-’79).

Pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1941-1943. Selected the International League Most Valuable Pitcher in 1943 when he posted a 21-11 record and a 1.99 ERA. Member of the 1942 & 1943 Governors’ Cup Championship Teams and holds two single season pitching records – most wins in a season (21) and lowest ERA (1.99). Born in Marianao Cuba and was inducted into the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1960. Played one season with the Cincinnati Reds in 1944.

Pitched for the Syracuse chiefs for four seasons, 1963-66 and ranks 5th all-time with 30 saves and 10th with 1453 appearances. Led the Chiefs to the 1963 North Division Championship when he went 11-6 with 17 saves and a 2.98 ERA. Followed that up with a 2.79 ERA in 1964 helping the Chiefs reach the Governor’s Cup Finals. His 63 appearances in 1963 was a club record that stood for 38 years. Pitched 15 years in professional baseball appearing in 254 games at the Triple A level and pitched for the Detroit Tigers during the 1963 season.

“Don”

Pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1985-87 and again in 1991. Led the International League with 2.07 ERA in 1985 and was 8-5 with 12 saves in 51 games as the Chiefs captured the I.L Pennant. Named to the 1987 International League All-Star Team after he went 4-6 with 6 saves and a 1.75 ERA in 43 games. His career 2.22 ERA ranks second all-time in Chiefs' history. Played part of three seasons in the Major Leagues with Toronto and Cleveland.

Played center field for the Syracuse Stars in 1925 appearing in 21 games with a .285 batting average. Was an early star in the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Farm System in the 1920s. Played 13 years in the Major League with the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds finishing with a .317 career batting average. Captured the 1931 National League Batting Title when he hit .349. Appeared in four World Series, 1926, 28-30 & 31 and played in the first ever Major League All-Star game in 1933. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.

Played baseball locally at North Syracuse High School from 1937-1940. Hurled two perfect games leading his team to the 1940 Onondaga County Championship. Pitched for Syracuse University from 1942-43 and was named the “Best All-Around Sophomore” Signed a professional contract with the New York Yankees in 1943 and played eight years in the Minor League. Best season came in 1951 at Montreal when he went 10-2 with a 2.30 ERA. Played one season in the Major Leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950. Became the Managing Editor of the American Press Institute after his baseball career and was inducted into the North Carolina journalism Hall of Fame in 2002.

Played outfield for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1993-1995 appearing in 393 games. Helped lead the Chiefs to the 1994 Governors’ Cup Finals batting .304 and was named to the 1995 International League All-Star Team when he captured the League Batting Title by hitting .343. His 22-game hitting streak in 1994 is still a club record and his 38 doubles and 172 hits in a single season are club records. Ranks 3rd all time with a .312 batting average and 10th with 93 career doubles. Played parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues with Toronto, Seattle Milwaukee, Montreal and New York (AL).

First worked for the Chiefs in the 1950s. Has sold popcorn, drinks, ice cream and programs as a team vendor for 55 years. Known as an essential part of the Chiefs’ gameday experience, with the trademark shouts “hey!” and “You’re Next!” Has returned to team three separate times after attempting to retire, thanks to unprecedented fan support for his enthusiasm and love for the game. Recipient of the team’s 2006 Jake Meyers Good Guy Award. Born and raised in Syracuse; grew up on First North Street near Chiefs. Worked for more than 40 years at Crouse-Hinds. Has also worked events at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse War Memorial and New York State Fair.

A pioneer of broadcast journalism in Central New York. The voice of Syracuse University football, Syracuse University basketball and the Chiefs throughout a 46-year sports media career with WSYR. Served as one of the voices of the Chiefs from 1989 to 2003, working with broadcast partners such as Dan Hoard and Matt Vasgersian. Longtime voice of the Syracuse Orangemen. Known for colorful phrases such as “he climbed the invisible ladder” and “he ate the pig”. Born in Newark, New Jersey. Enrolled in Syracuse University in 1946. After graduation served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Returned to Syracuse in 1953 to complete his master’s degree.

Played five seasons for the Chiefs throughout a 16-year professional career; 2000, 2002, and 2005 through 2007. Named International League MVP in 2000, smashing 33 home runs and driving in 102 runs with .309 batting average. Led league that season in home runs, total bases and slugging percentage. Hit 100 home runs and 138 doubles in Chiefs career, both of which rank second all-time in Chiefs history at time of induction. Also part pf Chiefs’ top ten career leaders in games, hits, runs, triples, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage. Played in 59 Major League games over five years after being selected by Reds as fifth overall pick in 1992. Has worked as hitting coach for Blue Jays and hitting coordinator for Rays upon retirement.

Led Brothers to 1996 state championship title. Began coaching career with CBA in 1980. School baseball field named “tom Dotterer Field” in his honor in 2016. Played nine years of minor league baseball, mostly in Reds’ system. Appeared in seven games for hometown Chiefs in 1962. Son of Syracuse Baseball Wall of Famer Henry “Dutch” Dotterer, a 40 year Major League scout, and brother of Syracuse Baseball Wall of Famer Henry John “Dutch” Dotterer Jr, a Major League catcher who also played on 1962 Chiefs. Born in Syracuse in December 1936 and played for CBA baseball team in high school before graduating in 1953.

Voice of the Chiefs from 1982-84 who rose from Syracuse to national stardom. Broadcast games for the Boston Red Sox from 1988 through 2004. Worked with CBS from 1990 through 1999. Where he became the youngest national broadcaster in World Series history at age 30 in 1992. Joined ESPN/ABC in 2000. Named play-by-play broadcaster for “Monday Night Football” in 2016. Has announced NCAA Tournament basketball, College Football Playoffs championship all four golf majors and Olympic Games in a versatile and storied career. Born in Boston in 1962 as the son of legendary sportswriter Will McDonough. Graduated from Syracuse University in 1984, where he broadcast the Orangemen’s first lacrosse national championship from WAER FM. President of the Sean McDonough Charitable Foundation, which raises and distributed funds to children's charities throughout Massachusetts.

Caught his 325th career Chiefs game on May 3rd, 2017 breaking Dave West’s all-time team record. Upon induction in 2017, ranked tied for second in team history with seven seasons played. Began Syracuse career in 2009, earning promotion in fourth professional season. Named to 2014 International League Mid-Season All-Star team, hitting career high ten home runs while leading Syracuse to its first division title in 25 years. Was signed by Nationals out of Barranquilla, Columbia, in September 2005. Made Major League debut in 2012 with Washington hitting .314 with two home runs in 12 games. Played in 36 total Major League games between 2012 and 2013 with Nationals, plus seven in 2015 with Marlins. Played alongside brother Donovan, an infielder, with Marlins and New Orleans in 2015.

Played for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1978-80. Hit .299 in 129 games with Syracuse in 1978 with nine home runs and 71 RBI’s. Earned a promotion to the major Leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays in September 1978. Made his MLB debut on September 7, 1978 with Toronto versus Milwaukee where he started as the designated hitter and went 2 for 4 at the plate. He has coached various youth baseball teams in the area for numerous years and is an instructor at the local baseball clinics. His contributions as a coach and instructor in the area have led to the growth of many youth baseball players in the community.

Played baseball at Syracuse University before playing shortstop and third base for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1901 alongside Hall of Famer Honus Wagner en route to the National League Championship. Ended his nine-year professional career with the Syracuse Stars from 1907-09. Played in 371 career games with the Stars. Beginning in 1910, following his professional career, the Union Springs, New York native coached SU’s baseball team to 275 wins before retiring in 1945. The school named its baseball diamond in Carr’s honor in 1952.

Syracuse Sky Chiefs starting pitcher from 1997-98 and 2000-01. Helped lead the Sky Chiefs to a playoff berth in 1998. Made 56 starts for Syracuse in his four years with the Sky Chiefs, posting 19 wins and 186 strikeouts in 329 and two thirds innings pitched. Eight-time Major League All-Star and two-time Cy Young Award Winner. Drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round in 1995 and played 12 seasons with Toronto before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies before the 2010 season and spending the last four seasons of his career with the Phillies. Pitched the 20th perfect game in Major League Baseball history on May 29, 2010 in Miami against the Florida Marlins. Made the first postseason appearance of the National League Division Series just second no hitter ever thrown in the postseason.

An official scorer with the Syracuse Chiefs and an active member of the Syracuse community. 2013 Jake Meyers Great Guy award Winner, given annually to an individual who devotes a great deal of his or her time to further enhance Chiefs Baseball in Central New York. Member of Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame Committee. Began writing for the Syracuse Herald Journal in 1984 and continued his writing career with The Post Standard. Coached baseball at Cicero Little League and North Syracuse Babe Ruth and was a coach and athletic director for Scared Heart CYO Basketball in Cicero. His involvement in all of these youth leagues made a lasting impact and helped positively shape the lives of numerous kids in the area. Graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in Syracuse before receiving his bachelor’s degree at St. Bonaventure University.

Herm played and coached baseball at Syracuse University from 1965-1972 and was named an SU Letterwinner of Distraction in 2018. He was the New York State National Baseball Congress MVP in 1975. He began his 50 year umpire career in 1966, and worked over 2000 games on many levels, including high school, Babe Ruth, AAU, NCAA, and USA Baseball championship tournaments. He was the New York State Umpire of the Year in 1977 and was a 2014 inductee into the New York State High School Athletic Hall of Fame as an umpire.

Syracuse Chiefs first baseball in 1962, MLB All-Star, World Series Champion and New York Mets Hall of Famer. Born in New York, NY where he attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx. Signed with the New York Mets in 1962 when he was 17 years old. Spent time with New York, Syracuse, Knoxville, and Auburn during his rookie season. Played 18 seasons with the Mets from 1962-1979, compiling a .261 batting average with 118 career home runs in the majors. 1965 National League All-Star. Helped lead the 1969 New York Mets to their first World Series Championship on the team known as the “Miracle Mets”. Holds the MLB record for highest batting average in a season by a pinch hitter with a .486 pinch hit batting average in 1974.

First moved to Central New York when his father Steve (Wall of Fame Class of 2006) played for the Syracuse Chiefs starting in 1978. Attended C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville where he played for Baldwinsville Bees. Following his high school career, Grilli was drafted in the 24th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees but did not sign. Attended Seton Hall University where he played for three seasons. Struck out 256 batters in 231 innings pitched in his college career. His 256 strikeouts are a school record. Holds the single season school record for strikeouts in a season with 125 in 1997. Drafted in the first round with the fourth overall pick in the 1997 Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Made his major league debut with the Florida Marlins in 2000. Pitched for 15 seasons in the majors with nine teams. 2013 National League All-Star with Pittsburgh. Made 595 career MLB appearances and pitched a 4.22 ERA in 684 and two-thirds innings pitched with 694 strikeouts and 79 saves in his 15-year Major League career.

Longtime Syracuse radio and TV personality who spent six seasons as a play-by-play broadcaster for the Syracuse Chiefs from 1965-1970. Born September 17, 1935 in Whitney Point, NY. Morse attended Syracuse University and worked on the sports and news staff at WAEF-FM from 1953-1956 while also working part-time locally at WOLF Radio. After his time at Syracuse University, Morse got his start with WINR in Binghampton. Made his way back to Syracuse in 1966 with WHEN/WTVH radio and television Channel 5. Morse started a popular “Athlete of the Week” segment to honor local athletes, a tradition that has continued and become a mainstay of local sports coverage and was one of Morse’s proudest creations. In 1984 he moved to Channel 9 (WIXT) in Syracuse. Morse also worked for Syracuse NewChannels where he co-hosted “Magazine 13”, and he also co-hosted a morning radio show with Phil Markert on WHEN. Spent more than four decades as a Central New York sportscaster. Inducted into the Syracuse Press Club’s Wall of Distinction in 2002.

Legendary coach of Corcoran High School and the combined Syracuse West teams. “Southy” began his coaching career in 1966 and coached for 50 years. He taught history and leadership at Grant Middle School and Corcoran High School for 30 years, He retired from the classroom in 1992, but he never stopped teaching on the playing field. He high had standards and rules for his players and taught them to be good players but better men. He was Corcoran’s only baseball coach and first soccer coach, thus creating programs that have developed countless professional, collegiate, and other levels of athletes, and prepared them for successful lives off the playing field. He retired from coaching in 2015 with a record of 709-403 putting him in the elite class of only three coaches with over 700 wins in NYS public high school history. His Corcoran teams won 10 League Championships and qualified for sectionals 39 times in 50 years. Undre his leadership, Onondaga County has become a national power in Babe Ruth League Baseball. Bob played catcher for Syracuse University before an injury ended his playing career. He is a member of the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame, and the NYS Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Executive Director of the Syracuse Challenger Baseball program, the largest single district Little League International Challenger Baseball program for children and adults with special needs in the country. The Syracuse Challenger Baseball program has grown immensely under Dom’s leadership to hundreds of special needs children and adults. Cambareri is the founder and board member of the Carrier Park Field of Dreams, a state-of-the-art, all inclusive, fully integrated multi-sports complex in Dewitt, NY, and the “Home of Syracuse Challenger Baseball”. He is a frequent National Anthem singer before Syracuse baseball games at NBT Bank Stadium.

Mark Lukasiewicz

Pitched for Syracuse from 1997 to 2004, all as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Selected by Toronto in the first round (40th overall) of the 1993 MLB draft. Ranks eighth all-time in Syracuse baseball history with 163 appearances in his five seasons (1997-2000, 2004). Played in the Major Leagues for the Los Angeles Angels in 2001 and 2002 as a relief pitcher. 2002 World Series Champion, having made 17 appearances for the Los Angeles Angels in 2002. Now lives in Syracuse and was part of the Syracuse Chiefs Broadcast Team from 2005 to 2008.

Phil “The Vulture” Regan

Resurrected his career as a pitcher for Syracuse in 1965, accumulating a 9-5 record with a minor league career-best 2.47 ERA. Set the franchise record with 0.87 WHIP, a record he still holds today. In 1966, with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Regan had the best season of his Major League career with a career-best 14-1 record, a 1.62 ERA, and 21 saves in 65 appearances. 1966 National League All-Star. It was with the Dodgers that teammate Sandy Koufax nicknamed Regan “The Vulture” because of his knack for earning wins in late-inning relief appearances. Regan’s playing career finished in 1972, totaling 15 MLB seasons with the Tigers, Dodgers, Cubs, and White Sox. Coached on various levels since 1973, joining the New York Mets organization in 2009. Interim pitching coach for both Syracuse and New York during part of the 2019 season.

Played for the Syracuse Stars in 1888 and 1889 and is known as the first Black man to play in the major leagues. Walker played one season in the majors with Toledo Blue Stockings in 1884, playing in 42 games, primarily as a catcher. After stops with other minor league teams, Walker finished his professional baseball career with Syracuse. Helped the Stars win the International Association pennant in 1888. The Stars moved to the International League in 1889, and Walker played in 50 games before he was released near the end of the season. Aptly nicknamed “Fleet”, he stole 52 bases in 127 games with Syracuse. Walker was the last Black player to play for the International League before Jackie Robinson did so in 1946 with Montreal.

A lifelong Syracuse resident and baseball fan, Bill attended his first Syracuse Chiefs game on opening day 1954. He served on the Community Baseball Club of CNY Board of Directors from 1988-2017. He oversaw the parking operations for the Chiefs for fifteen years and served on every Committee the Board had in its tenure. Was President/CEO of the Community Baseball Club from 2011-2017. His significant contribution to the team was being a founding member of Chiefs First, a group of local investors that re-organized, re-energized and re-focused the teams operations after the 2013 season. Under his leadership, the team regained its popularity and the Board found the perfect partner to carry on the rich tradition of the Community Baseball Club of CNY when it sold to the New York Mets in 2017. The Mets subsequently extended the lease with Onondaga County until 2043 which led to a 25 million dollar renovation of the old ballpark on the Northside.

Helped to form the second all-Black battery ever in professional baseball alongside fellow Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame inductee, Moses Fleetwood Walker. A native of Memphis, Higgins was signed at the age of 20 to play for the Syracuse Stars in 1887. Higgins had a 20-7 record with an ERA of 2.90 for the Stars in the 18887 season. Also known for his speed, he hit .294 and stole 28 bases in 41 games while playing in the outfield in 1887. Higgins helped the Stars to win the International League title in 1888 while posting a 2.76 ERA. He returned to his home in Memphis in 1888 to run a barber shop, returning to professional baseball again in 1896 to play for the Cuban Giants in the Negro League.
