SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse Mets are excited to announce that the New York Mets will hold their final spring training workout of the 2019 season in Central New York, at the Dome at Syracuse University. The event will take place from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26th and is free for all fans to attend. Free parking will be available at Sky Top at Syracuse University where buses will take fans to the Dome for the event. Gates open at 11 a.m.u1:p
"This extraordinary event will kick off our wonderful partnership with Onondaga County," Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said. "We are thrilled the Syracuse community will have a chance to connect with our players up close and personal."
"We are excited to showcase our major league club in Syracuse, the new home of our Triple-A affiliate," Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said. "Baseball fans in Central New York will have the opportunity to watch the Mets in their final workout on March 26th before we begin the 2019 season."
Among the New York Mets players scheduled to be in Syracuse for the workout are Jacob deGrom, Robinson Canó and Noah Syndergaard. Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen and Manager Mickey Callaway will also be at the event.
"This is huge," Jason Smorol, General Manager of the Syracuse Mets said. "The New York Mets have made a real commitment to our community and bringing the team to the Dome really cements that. I can't wait for our local fans to see deGrom, Canó, Syndergaard and the rest of the Major League Club."
Pete Sala, Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer at Syracuse University, says his team is looking forward to welcoming the New York Mets organization to campus.
"The Dome has hosted hundreds of exciting sports and entertainment events over the years, but this is the first time baseball will be played in our iconic venue," says Sala. "It's truly a first-of-its-kind experience. This is an exciting opportunity for local sports fans to enjoy Major League talent right here in Central New York."
During the workout, the team will take batting and infield practice and pitchers will throw their bullpens, all out on the Dome turf. The event will include appearances by Mr. Met, the Mets Perk Patrol, and Scooch, as well as in-park player and fan interviews.
The event is free to the public courtesy of local partners: Visit Syracuse, NBT Bank, Embassy Suites and Coca-Cola. Donations will be accepted by the Mets Foundation - Syracuse Fund and will be donated back to our community. An electronic raffle will take place for prizes such as a first pitch at a Syracuse Mets game, autographed player items and more.
