CURVE, Pa. – In 2022, Jared Triolo took the field in his Altoona Curve uniform to accept his Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award for his fantastic infield play at Greensboro in 2021. Next season, he will repeat the action in his Pittsburgh Pirates uniform.

Triolo was named the winner of the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Award for the National League’s utility players on Sunday night. He is just the third player to win the award since the utility position was introduced in 2022.

This is the second consecutive season that an Altoona alum has won the award at the Major League level, with Ke’Bryan Hayes winning his first Gold Glove at third base for the Pirates last season. Overall, Triolo joins a list of six other former Curve stars to go on to win the award, including Hayes, Nate McLouth (OF, 2008, PIT), Bronson Arroyo (P, 2010, CIN), Andrew McCutchen (CF, 2012, PIT), Starling Marte (LF, 2015-16, PIT), and Jacob Stallings (C, 2021, PIT.)

Triolo showed off his excellent defense in Altoona in 2022, where he went on to be named the Curve’s Most Valuable Player. Spending most of his time at third base, Triolo recorded a .970 fielding percentage in nearly 750 total innings, with just seven errors committed. He showed off his versatility on the field with innings at shortstop and center field.

This season, Triolo took the field at five different positions for the Pirates: third base (61 games), second base (47 games), shortstop (nine games), first base (nine games), and one game in right field. In that time, he committed just three total errors. He finished the season tied for the best fielding percentage (.995) at second base among NL infielders with at least 300 innings played. He also led all third basemen in the category (.985).

Triolo becomes the 21st Pittsburgh Pirate to win the Gold Glove award and the third in four years. He edged out Brendan Donovan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kike Hernandez of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the award. He is the first Pirate to win a Gold Glove in his first full Major League season.
