JACKSON, TN - The Jackson Generals (56-46, 17-17) scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth as part of a 9-5 comeback win over the Biloxi Shuckers (60-43, 19-14) on Thursday night at the Ballpark at Jackson. Corey Ray went 3-for-5 in the game, his third consecutive multi-hit game.
Biloxi got out to a hot start in the top of the first. Ray ripped a single to right and came around to score on a double from Keston Hiura, putting Biloxi up 1-0 three batters into the game. Lucas Erceg then worked a full count before launching a two-run homer over the right field wall, his 12th of the season, to make it 3-0 Shuckers.
Jackson got on the board in the bottom of the second, loading the bases on a pair of hit batters and single, setting up a Jose Vinicio RBI single. Another run scored on a fielders' choice and an error, bringing Jackson within a run at 3-2. RHP Thomas Jankins (L, 9-6) induced a double play that ended the inning, limiting the damage. Generals' starter RHP Bo Takahashi appeared to injure his hamstring sliding in to second attempting to break up the double play, and exited the game after just two innings.
RHP Bud Jeter (W, 1-1) entered the game for Jackson and allowed just two hits during three innings of work, keeping the Shuckers off the board. The Generals went in front in the bottom of the fifth thanks to RBI knocks from Kevin Medrano, Jay Gonzalez and Marcus Littlewood, scoring five runs to go up 7-3, chasing Jankins before he could complete five frames.
The Shuckers moved within striking distance in the top of the sixth. Tyler Heineman singled off the left field wall to leadoff the inning and scored on a double by Trent Grisham. Gabriel Noriega delivered a sacrifice fly to center that plated Grisham to bring Biloxi within two at 7-5. However, the Generals tagged RHP Daniel Reynolds for another two runs in the home half of the frame, extending their advantage back to four runs at 9-5.
The series comes to a close on Friday night at 6:05 PM. Biloxi is slated to send RHP Marcos Diplan (1-1, 3.12) to the mound against RHP Ryan Atkinson (3-11, 5.18). The game can be heard locally on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9, TuneIn Radio or the MiLB First Pitch App.
