PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (36-50) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come back and defeat the Biloxi Shuckers (48-37) 3-2 on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. LHP Wade Miley tossed four perfect innings for the Shuckers in a rehab start.
Troy Stokes Jr. put the Shuckers on the board two batters into the game. Corey Ray singled on the first pitch of the game from RHP Kyle Wright before Stokes bashed his twelfth home of the season over the left field fence, giving Biloxi a 2-0 lead.
Miley stifled the M-Braves in his fourth rehab outing, striking out four while not allowing a base runner. He also had a perfect night at the plate, laying down a sacrifice bunt and singling the opposite way.
Mississippi cracked the scoreboard in the sixth when Daniel Lockhart led off the inning with a home run, his fourth of the season, to bring the M-Braves within a run at 2-1. Biloxi had a chance to extend their lead in the seventh, loading the bases on a pair of singles and a walk against RHP Enderson Franco (W, 3-6). Trent Grisham bounced out to first for the last out of the frame, stranding the runners.
The M-Braves took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a pair of singles and a two-RBI double by Connor Lien off RHP Thoma Jankins (8-5), putting Mississippi up 3-2. Biloxi threatened in the top of the ninth inning but were unable to plate a run after Stokes tripled to start the inning. LHP Adam McCreery (S, 2) retired the next three men in order, holding Stokes at third and securing the win for the M-Braves.
