Shuckers Drop Series Finale 6-1

PEARL, MS – For the second straight day, the Mississippi Braves (18-21) used a multi-run second inning to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers (18-21) 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park. With the win, the M-Braves clinched the series victory.
After Shuckers’ LHP Nick Bennett (L, 2-3) tossed a scoreless first inning, the M-Braves scratched across three runs to take the early 3-0 lead in the second inning. After a leadoff walk and single, Jacob Pearson doubled home two runs to the 2-0 advantage. Two batters later, Trey Harris lined a single down the right-field line to cap off the three-run inning.
Mississippi extended their lead in the fourth inning after Riley Delgado scored on an error in right field by Tristen Lutz. The lone run for Biloxi came across in the top of the sixth inning. After Gabe Holt started the frame with a lead-off single, Thomas Dillard would later single up the middle to plate Holt and cut the deficit to three.
The M-Braves rattled off two more runs in the sixth and seventh inning. In the sixth, Logan Brown crushed a one-out triple to deep right field to start the frame. Harris collected another RBI single to score Brown and push the score line ahead to 5-1. In the next inning, Brown would score the final run of the game with a single to left field.
In his third start against the Shuckers this season, LHP Jared Shuster (W, 3-3) struck out five over six innings. LHP Hayden Deal, LHP Jake Higginbotham and RHP Tyler Ferguson each fired scoreless frames out of the bullpen to complete the 6-1 victory for the M-Braves.
The Shuckers return to Biloxi and host the Montgomery Biscuits for the start of a six-game series on Tuesday at MGM Park. RHP Justin Bullock (0-0, 7.71) will get the start for the Shuckers while the Biscuits have yet to name a starting pitcher.
