The Biloxi Shuckers (19-44) used a six-run eighth inning to force extra innings but were defeated in walk-off fashion for a second straight night by the Montgomery Biscuits (32-29) 9-8 in 11 innings on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium. David Fry and Mitch Longo both had three hit nights for the Shuckers, with Fry coming a single shy of the cycle.

Trailing 8-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Fry recorded his second hit of the night to lead off the frame, a triple off the top of the right field wall that nearly left the ballpark. Ryan Aguilar then drove in Fry with an infield single, making it 8-2 in favor of the Biscuits.

The flood gates opened for the Shuckers offense in the top of the eighth inning. Alexander Palma and Luis Castro hit back-to-back doubles, plating a run to bring the score to 8-3. Mitch Longo then singled on the infield and Gabriel Garcia drove in Castro with a double to left before Fry doubled to right field, plating two more runs, pulling the Shuckers within striking distance at 8-6. Aguilar singled up the middle and Cam Devanney reached on a fielder’s choice and a throwing error, placing the tying run at second base. Brice Turang then singled down the right field line, scoring Aguilar to pull the Shuckers level at 8-8.

RHP Matt Hardy (L, 1-2) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, sending the game to extras. In the tenth, Biloxi moved their bonus runner to third base on a groundout but was unable to bring him home. Hardy then worked around two men in scoring position in the home half of the tenth inning to extend the game to the eleventh.

In the top of the eleventh, Garrett Mitchell singled up the middle, moving the bonus runner Devanney to third. After a strikeout of Turang by RHP Joel Peguero (W, 2-5), Palma was intentionally walked, loading the bases for Castro. The designated hitter struck out on a full count pitch and Longo hit into a fielder’s choice, keeping the game square at 8-8. Montgomery would walk it off when Jake Palomaki laid down a sacrifice bunt up the third base line and a throwing error to first by Hardy allowed the bonus runner to score.

RHP Lucas Erceg opened the game for the Shuckers and allowed three runs in the second inning on a home run, three singles and a throwing error, giving Montgomery a 3-0 lead after two frames.

Fry led off the top of the third inning with a solo home run to straightaway center field, his seventh homer of the year, putting the Shuckers on the board to make it 3-1. Montgomery stretched their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third on a two-run homer to left by Ruben Cardenas, his second of the night. The Biscuits added two more in the bottom of the fourth inning as well to make it 7-1 and a solo home run by Jim Haley in the bottom of the sixth stretched Montgomery’s lead to 8-1.

Longo reached base safely in four consecutive plate appearances including three straight hits before he was retired on a pop out in the ninth. His performance meant that Longo hit safely in nine straight at bats and reached base safely in 10 straight plate appearances dating back to the seventh inning of Wednesday night’s game.

Biloxi continues their series against the Biscuits on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Jesus Castillo (1-4, 6.39) is scheduled to start for the Shuckers against Biscuits’ RHP Peyton Battenfield (3-0, 2.33) for a 6:05 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be streamed on MiLB TV.
