Cyclones Split a Pair in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD (June 30, 2021) – The Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, split a single-admission doubleheader with the Aberdeen IronBirds, winning 7-6 after a 2-1 loss in game on Wednesday at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. GAME ONE -- Aberdeen 2, Brooklyn 1 (7) Win:

  • Andrew Daschbach broke the 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, ripping an RBI single to center field to score Zach Watson and take a 2-1 lead.
  • Brooklyn’s Jose Butto tied his career-high, striking out nine batters in a tough-luck loss Thr righthander turned in a quality start, with two earned runs allowed over six innings. The No. 15 Mets prospect walked one and allowed five hits.
  • Cyclones left fielder Cody Bohanek yanked a solo home run to left field in the second to put Brooklyn in front 1-0.

BIG MOMENTS

  • Mitch Ragan nailed down the save in the seventh inning, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs to preserve the 7-6 victory. Ragan came on in the final frame after Aberdeen cut the deficit from 7-3 to 7-6.
  • Ronny Mauricio extended Brooklyn’s lead to 7-1 with a two-run monster home run from the right side of the plate in the fourth inning.
  • Brooklyn erased an early 1-0 deficit with a five-run third inning. Luke Ritter’s RBI single, Cody Bohanek’s two-run ground rule double, and Zach Ashford’s two-RBI single did the damage.
