Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Bisons collected an all-around exciting win as Addison Barger hit a walk-off against the Worchester Red Sox in the bottom of the ninth on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field.
The Bisons pitching staff also dominated the WooSox hitters early as they racked up 15 strikeouts combined on the night.
Yariel Rodriguez started strong for Buffalo. Rodriguez, who is on an MLB injury rehab assignment with the Bisons from Toronto, struck out five of the first six batters he faced. This included striking out the side in the top of the second inning.
The Bisons would bring across the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning. After Riley Tirotta hit a leadoff single, Brian Serven drove in Tirotta on an RBI single to right field. This would put the Bisons up 1-0.
Rodriguez was finished after four innings, replaced to begin the fifth inning. Paxton Shultz replaced him. In four innings worth of work, Rodriguez faced 15 batters. He struck out 10 while only giving up three hits and one walk.
Worcester responded in the top of the sixth inning. The Red Sox would erase the Buffalo lead on a throwing error after a Niko Kavadas single. The error would allow Nick Yorke to score, allowing the WooSox to even the score, 1-1.
Then, Mickey Gasper hit a sharp fly ball to center field allowing Kavadas to score. The RBI double gave the Red Sox their first advantage of the night, 2-1.
The Bisons were able to even the score bottom of the eighth inning. After Addison Barger got himself into a scoring position by swiping his second bag of the season, Orelvis Martinez would score Barger with an RBI single into center field, allowing the Bisons to tie the game, 2-2.
In the top of the ninth inning, the WooSox threatened to take the lead. But, despite a leadoff double and the runner being advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, the Bisons would end the threat. Cam Eden caught the line drive to center field to retire the side and put an end to the threat.
