Round Rock Walks Off Las Vegas in Series Finale

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Sunday night saw the Round Rock Express (50-43) complete their second series sweep of the season with a 2-1 walk-off victory over the Las Vegas Aviators (49-43) at Dell Diamond.
Round Rock reliever RHP Josh Sborz (2-0, 0.44) earned the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning that saw one strikeout. Las Vegas RHP Garrett Acton (1-2, 0.59) went home with the loss as he allowed the winning run to score during his 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Along the Train Tracks:
- After a scoreless first three innings, Las Vegas plated the game’s first run in the fourth. C Shea Langeliers found base on a two-out double before scoring thanks to a single from 1B Matt Davidson.
- Round Rock tied the game at one apiece in the fifth inning when LF J.P. Martinez launched a 421-foot home run into center field, earning the first Triple-A hit of his career.
- The Express kept three Aviators baserunners away from home plate during the final two innings as the game headed into the bottom of the ninth still tied at 1-1.
- Round Rock CF Steven Duggar walked to start the frame before 1B Andy Ibáñez joined him on base with a single. DH Steele Walker moved both runners into scoring position with a flyout. The winning run came when a single from C Sam Huff landed just past the center fielder and scored Duggar for a 2-1 win.
E-Train Excerpts:
- Express LF J.P. Martinez made his second career Triple-A appearance on Sunday night. After going 0-for-3 with a walk in his debut on Saturday, the outfielder finished 1-for-3 with a home run tonight.
- Martinez became the season’s third Round Rock hitter to hit his first Triple-A home run while also earning his first Triple-A hit. OF Bubba Thompson went yard in his Triple-A debut on April 5 against El Paso before INF Ezequiel Duran accomplished the feat on June 30 against Las Vegas.
- Sunday’s win marked Round Rock’s third walk-off win this season and completed the team’s second series sweep. It was also the third time this year that the Express have won despite being outhit by an opponent.
- The E-Train bullpen remained steady as RHP Ryder Ryan, RHP Nick Snyder, RHP Spencer Patton, LHP John King and RHP Josh Sborz combined for five shutout innings that saw only three hits, two walks and four punchouts. Starter LHP Kolby Allard allowed one run and struck out seven during 4.0 frames.
Next up: Round Rock opens a six-game series against Sacramento on Tuesday night Dell Diamond. River Cats RHP Tristan Beck (3-6, 6.85) is scheduled to start against an Express pitcher to be announced. The series-opening first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
