Making his debut in July of 1998, Sparkee has since gone on to become one of the most popular characters in the Central New Jersey area. Sparkee received his name in a contest run to help the team name the mascot before the Somerset Patriots even played a game. He is named after New York Yankees legend and then Somerset Patriots manager Sparky Lyle. His named was spelled S-p-a-r-k-e-e to give him his own identity, though he does have Sparky's handlebar mustache worked into his look.
Sparkee is the top dog around town, a 6'0" schnauzer that knows how to dance, entertain, and though he cannot speak, can get the crowd going like no other. His number is 98 in honor of the year he was introduced and the Somerset Patriots' first season of play.
Favorite Food: Hot Dogs. They are a ballpark classic AND says dog in the name. What can be better?
Favorite Movie: "Lady And The Tramp". The spaghetti scene always makes me cry. Not just because it's sweet, but I don't have any spaghetti and meatballs when I'm watching it.
Favorite Song: Hound Dog by Elvis Presley. It makes my hips shake.
Favorite Musician: Pitbull. Not the hip hop star. There's a great pitbull that sings in our area. He howls with the best of them. The voice of an angel.
Favorite Actor: Lassie. Is that cliché? I just love how he's able to basically tell people Timmy is stuck in a well with such conviction. You would think Timmy would just stop getting stuck in a well. I might just have seen the same episode too many times.
Best Friend: Slider. I know he's a cat, but it shows you can find good in everyone.
Favorite Superhero: Underdog. He's the Superman for dogs. And his mom's name might also be Martha, but I don't remember an origin story.
Favorite Quote: "I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dog!"- Every Scooby Doo villain ever!
