Louisville (14-18) started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning.
The Bats extended their lead in the fourth.
Syracuse (17-14) scored its lone run in the seventh. Gómez homered to left field with one out to trim the deficit to two, 3-1. This is the third straight game that Gómez has hit a home run in.
The Mets and Bats continue their three-game series with the second game on Wednesday morning. LHP Héctor Santiago will be on the mound for Syracuse opposite RHP
