LAKEWOOD, N.J. (May 31, 2024) — RF Stanley Consuegra provided a towering two-run home run — his fifth in 11 games — but the Brooklyn Cyclones could not best the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in a 7-2 defeat on Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.
Jersey Shore (27-22) struck in the bottom of the first for the third-straight game.
Despite only a man at second and two out, the BlueClaws utilized a two-run triple by RF Cade Fergus and a passed ball to squirt out to a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, Jersey Shore tacked on when CF Justin Crawford singled, stole second, and scored on 2B Otto Kemp’s two-out double.
Brooklyn (26-23) started the comeback effort in the top of the sixth. 1B Nick Lorusso worked a one-out walk to extend his on-base streak to 12 before swiping second with two down.
On a 2-0 pitch, Consuegra eviscerated an offering to the back of the left-field berm for a two-run home run. The 23-year-old’s sixth blast of the season pulled the Cyclones within a pair, 4-2.

However, that was as close as the Cyclones would get. C Jordan Dissin led off the seventh for Jersey Shore with a solo home run around the pole in left, while 3B Zach Arnold and LF Troy Schreffler added a run-scoring triple and single, respectively, in the eighth to make it 7-2.
RHP Eiberson Castellano (3-2) struck out a career-high 13 batters over 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, to earn his third win for Jersey Shore.
It was an abbreviated start for RHP Douglas Orellana (0-1) on Friday, but the 22-year-old was taxed for a season-high-tying three runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings, suffering his first Brooklyn defeat.
RHP Jonah Tong (1-0, 1.69), the New York Mets’ No. 20 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is scheduled to take the hill in game five of the series for the Cyclones. The BlueClaws are projected to counter with RHP Trey Dillard (1-0, 2.08) starting a bullpen game. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from ShoreTown Ballpark.
