Sustainability at First Horizon Park
Green Infrastructure and Design
First Horizon Park was designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating innovative features such as:
- A Walkable, Urban Location – Easy access to the greenway and public transit reduces carbon emissions.
- Green Roof – A 2,800-square-foot rooftop garden helps improve energy efficiency and air quality.
- Rainwater Harvesting System – Collects and reuses rainwater for plant irrigation.
- Bioretention System – Planted with native, drought-tolerant species to filter stormwater naturally.
- Permeable Pavers – Helps control stormwater runoff, reducing flooding and pollution.
- Energy-Efficient Building Systems – Designed to reduce energy use by 19% compared to standard buildings.
- Sustainable Materials – 90% of construction waste was diverted from landfills, and nearly 33% of building materials were regionally sourced within 500 miles.
LEED Silver Certification
First Horizon Park has earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification, recognizing its commitment to water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
Community and Conservation Efforts
The Nashville Sounds are dedicated to keeping our city clean.
- Annual All-Staff Cleanup Day – The Sounds staff works with the City of Nashville to maintain the 10.8-acre area surrounding the ballpark.
- Partnership with Cumberland River Compact – Ongoing maintenance of the bioretention cell ensures proper stormwater management by removing invasive plants and trash.
Stadium Recycling and Rescue
- Recycling Commitment – Glass and cardboard are collected and recycled after each homestand to reduce landfill waste.
- Food Rescue Program – Surplus food is donated to local organizations, helping to fight hunger and support those in need.
