The Somerset Patriots won their third straight game over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies by a score of 4-3 in front of a sold-out crowd on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark.

Now with a record of 16-9, the Patriots have moved a season-best seven games over .500.

With their fourth win in five games of the series, Somerset ensured a series victory over Binghamton. The Patriots have now won back-to-back series for the first time this season.

The Patriots have now won 10 of their last 13 games and Sunday they will go for their first five-win series of the season.

The game was played in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,962--the Patriots’ largest crowd of the season.

Dating back to Wednesday, Somerset’s pitching staff had a 23.2 IP scoreless streak snapped in the fifth inning of Saturday’s game. The scoreless streak was the Patriots’ longest since becoming the Yankees Double-A affiliate (2021).

1B T.J. Rumfield (1-for-3, 2 RBI, R) doubled the Patriots’ lead with his fifth home run of the season in the second inning—a two-run shot that resulted in bringing home the game’s decisive runs.

Now with five home runs on the season, Rumfield leads the Patriots and is tied for fourth in the Eastern League. His 19 RBI also lead the Patriots and rank second in the Eastern League.

Entering this season, Rumfield had four career home runs in 84 career games (two seasons). In his 19th game of the season in 2023, he has set a new career-best season mark in home runs.
