Safe At Home Foundation Night With Joe Torre Appearance On 7/23

Bridgewater, New Jersey - The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, will welcome MLB icon and Hall of Famer Joe Torre to TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday, July 23 as part of a partnership with the Safe At Home Foundation. The Patriots take on the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) at 6:05 pm presented by Somerset County Library System.
More than 20 years ago, Ali and Joe Torre founded Safe At Home to end the cycle of violence and abuse through education. Today, with education as their foundation, in schools and beyond, they strengthen every person’s courage, knowledge, and resilience through healthy relationship building, coping and self-care tools, and accessible resources. Safe At Home teaches children, families, and communities to be changemakers who build a world free from harm.
Torre will take part in a SOLD OUT pre-game VIP Meet & Greet in the SK Club before taking the field for a Q&A about his career and work through his foundation, as well as throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.
“As a child, I witnessed abuse in my home, causing me to carry the burdens of fear and shame with me throughout my life. When I finally came to terms with my experience, I wanted to ensure that no one grew up as I did,” said Joe Torre. “My message to fans at this event, and all others throughout our baseball partnerships and beyond is this. You are not alone. It is not your fault. We are here to help because we are safer and braver together.”
Safe At Home also creates safe places at schools called Margaret’s Place, named in honor of Joe Torre’s mother. The Margaret Place model offers both trauma informed invention and prevention services for empowerment, education and understanding. The foundation looks to teach every child what healthy relationships look like and how to take care of themselves and each other.
At the game, Safe At Home Foundation will have staff on the main concourse to provide information and interact with fans. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation Topps baseball card, in which Torre will sign 10 that will be randomly inserted and distributed at the gates. Fans will also have the chance to enter a raffle to win a baseball signed by Torre.
In addition to the VIP Meet & Greet, fundraising at the event also includes that evening’s 50/50 raffle, which will be donated to Safe At Home.
Later in the season, the Patriots will partner with Safe At Home Foundation for one more awareness and fundraising event, featuring a Joe Torre bobblehead doll giveaway (1st 1,000 Fans) on Wednesday, August 28. The game is presented by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
