Surprise 3, Mesa 2
Bucking the trend through the first week's worth of AFL games, pitching moved to the forefront. T.J. Sikkema led the way for the Saguaros, allowing a run on two hits and two walks in four innings. The No. 16 Royals prospect struck out three, walked a pair and picked up the win. Sikkema was matched by Mason Miller, who rebounded from a rough AFL debut in which he didn't make it out of the second inning. Oakland's 20th-ranked prospect worked three frames and surrendered one run while striking out two. Astros prospect Will Wagner doubled twice, walked and drove in a run for Surprise. The son of former Major Leaguer Billy Wagner is batting .455 with a 1.402 OPS and eight RBIs. Mason Auer opened the scoring with an RBI double for Mesa.
