WORCESTER, M.A. — The Worcester Red Sox (45-40, 6-4) scored four times in the fourth to beat the Syracuse Mets (35-49, 2-8) on Saturday afternoon, an 8-4 victory at Polar Park.
The WooSox trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth, a frame that began with a Ceddanne Rafaela double, his first of two on the day. After an out and a walk, Bobby Dalbec laced a single to center, scoring Rafaela. Wilyer Abreu was next, and he cracked a sac-fly to deep center to tie the game. A walk and a stolen base put two in scoring position for Narciso Crook, who ripped a go-ahead two-run single to put the home team on top, 5-3.
Abreu kept his big offensive day rolling, smashing solo home runs to right-center in the sixth and eighth innings. Since coming off the injured list on June 21, Abreu has three long balls and 11 on the season.
In his first Triple-A start, Brian Van Belle earned his first Worcester win. The right-hander posted the following line: 5 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, allowing all three runs on a go-ahead fourth-inning homer by Abraham Almonte.
Offensively, the WooSox took the lead in the first on a first-and-third play—David Hamilton, in his first game back from Boston, sprinted home on a rundown to open the scoring. Hamilton reached base three times in his return, doubling in the first as well.
Rafaela notched his seventh hit of the week in the seventh, an RBI double to score Stephen Scott.
Richard Bleier made his second rehab appearance at Triple-A, going 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. The left-hander reached the 22 pitch mark (15 strikes). Oddanier Mosqueda got the final out of the seventh, and Dinelson Lamet, making his organizational debut went two innings, giving up one run on Almonte's second homer.
