Shorebirds Win Series with Two Wins on Sunday

*SALEM, VA: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (10-7) picked up a pair of wins against the Salem Red Sox (8-9) on Sunday to win the first series following the All-Star break.

GAME 1

The Shorebirds and Red Sox resumed action from Saturday's suspended contest with Salem leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, but Delmarva would quickly snatch the lead away in the top of the fifth as they struck for three runs. Stiven Acevedo got it started with an RBI double to score Randy Florentino making it 3-2. Noelberth Romero would then push the 'Birds in front with a two-run single that plated both Acevedo and Carter Young to give Delmarva a 4-3 advantage.

It remained 4-3 into the seventh inning until Delmarva grabbed an insurance run courtesy of Rolphy Cruz who brought in Carter Young with a groundout to make it a 5-3 game.

The Red Sox began their rally attempt in the eighth as they pulled within one on an RBI single by Alexis Hernandez to cut the Shorebirds' lead back to one at 5-4.

But Delmarva would get that run back in the top of the ninth with a run-producing single by Anderson De Los Santos with Samuel Basallo scoring on the play to give the Shorebirds a 6-4 lead.

Great pitching from Edgar Portes and Brayner Sanchez would get the Shorebirds to the finish line as Portes dealt five innings of relief, allowing just one run while Sanchez recorded the final three outs in the ninth for his first save in a Delmarva uniform, closing out a 6-4 win.

Edgar Portes (5-2) was the winning pitcher for the Shorebirds with Brayner Sanchez (1) earning the save. Matt Litwicki (0-1) was saddled with the loss in relief for the Red Sox.
