SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (0-7) suffered their seventh straight loss as the Salem Red Sox (4-3) defeated them, 4-2.
Johanfran Garcia put the Red Sox on the board right away in the first as he hit a solo shot over the wall in left to make it 1-0.
In the second, another run would score for Salem on a sacrifice fly by Albert Feliz, giving the Red Sox a 2-0 advantage.
The older brother of Johanfran, Jhostynxon Garcia, did his damage in the fourth for Salem as he launched a two-run homer to center, extending the Red Sox lead to 4-0.
Delmarva battled back in the bottom half as Leandro Arias cranked his first home run of the season by sending one over the right field wall, his two-run homer cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Shorebirds got a great effort from their bullpen, led by Ty Weatherly in his season debut as he tossed four scoreless innings with Zane Barnhart putting up a zero in his only frame.
However, the Salem bullpen was equally dominant as they allowed just two baserunners in the final five innings, securing their fourth straight win in the series as they beat Delmarva 4-2.
Reliever Royman Blanco (2-1) earned his second win of the series with starter Blake Money (0-1), taking the loss for the Shorebirds.
The series continues on Saturday as Luis De León takes the mound for Delmarva versus Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
